FX Nytro or SR Viper?
Got out of riding 10 years ago. I had an 2005 Rage and 2006 Nytro that I really enjoyed riding. Put over 10k miles on each of these sleds and basically gave them away in 2017 compared to what people are asking today.
Got back into riding this year and tried to find another Vector/Rage/Nytro and the prices in Michigan for used sleds is insane. High Mileage, poorly maintained and High priced. Bought a 2006 Apex 144 for this season and decided it wasn't the sled for me after 500 miles. Not sure if it was the track extension or other factors, but it was a tank navigating thru the tight trails where I ride.
Working with up to a $5k budget and will be searching a multistate area and I am considering a short track 2009+ FX Nytro or SR Viper with less than 6000 miles. Leaning towards the Fx Nytro as I have ridden several of them and very few SR Vipers fit into my budget.
Anything in particular to look out for on either of these sleds? My plan will upon purchase to replace all the drive line bearings and while researching this I saw a lot of issues with the early Vipers.
Pic for attention.

Find a nice Viper, they are far more comfortable and better handling.

In stock form, the SR Viper is the better sled. More stable handling, more storage, better suspension, better wind protection, and more aftermarket support. It has relatively few issues, which are easily addressed with a call to Barn of Parts.
As for a Nytro, it’s getting old and parts are getting harder to find. The suspension and handling are pretty bad unless you replace the entire front and rear suspensions. A good deal now may cost you a lot later as you upgrade it to ride well and remain reliable.

Thanks for the feedback. Any reason not to consider the ZR7000 as well?

I thought I read somewhere that Yamaha wasn’t providing parts for the viper anymore? I could definitely be wrong, just something I thought I read somewhere? Even though they still have parts for Nytro

Exactly, whenever I needed a part for my Viper, I went to Country Cat and ordered the same AC part and saved tons of money and it shipped overnight. No hassle with Yamaha or yamaha dealers.Whatever you can't get from Yamaha will be available from Cat.
As my cat loving buddies say, they race cat as the parts are cheap and you will break stuff. Too funny.
I personally love my Apex better than the Viper (mostly for power) but I would take that Viper any day over a Nytro for pure comfort, handling and parts availability. Someone could make the argument that the Nytro tune has minimal amounts more power, but it's not a factor when the viper handles so much better, it will utilize power way batter.

Viper for sure. And the Cat version would be fine as well. You can research any issues or things to watch out for here. Good luck on your search.

I have had both sleds and my turbo viper is hands down better than the Nytro XtX I used to have. I put the mountaintech 34" arms on my nytro and a bunch of other mods and the only thing that made that sled stand out from my viper was the clutch work and regear I did. I had it dialed to smoke any 800 off the line. 2500 rpm engagement and it felt like the sled was going to come out from under me lol
The viper handles a lot better off trail and on trail. If I was to do it again I would definitely go viper right away. I do miss my nytro at times.

Definitely will be considering the Viper in my search. Hardest part will be finding one that fits in my budget that isn't clapped out.

I'm seeing vipers dropping all over the place. And the crazy part is the AC 7000's for even less. Cat guys have no idea what it is I think.
Are you in Ironwood area? I see West Michigan. I'm debating selling my viper, as it's just my spare sled. It just doesn't get used as I can only ride one at a time.

Grand Rapids area. Quite a ways away from Ironwood. Local Riding season is over for me with the coming warm up so going to wait it out to find a "low" mileage sled. The Cat 7000s are far and few compared to the Viper.
