  • Hi i'm having good luck with the pink secondary spring in a stock 2019 srx but want to cut .050" off my secondary spring pocket and .050" off the helix pocket to eliminate coil binding and get some more overdrive,my question is it the same cutting .100" of the helix or should i cut .050" off each to keep it balanced? total of 2.54 millimeters then just add a 2.54 mm washer to the bolt to keep the offset the same?

Hi Fast, I would cut even amount off of each. .050" off each is going to work perfect for you
Hey Terry got the orange secondary spring for apex having problem with clutch hanging open, when I come to a stop the helix is off the buttons the spring is wrapped correct at 40 and these are not hard stops either it will work sometimes when it does it works great all bushings buttons and helix are new took off belt and tested fully opens and closes right stock spring doesn't act up any idea whats wrong

Sounds like the wrap is not correct, make sure the helix is twisted clockwise. The helix should be against the buttons all the time.

Hi Terry just got the replacement Orange spring that you sent me wanted you to know that all three orange springs I have all are different in the way they wind to 40 with this new one that you sent much tighter at 40 than the other two
hey Terry, I had ordered the big venom kit for my SW and I thought that came with a secondary spring but I only see the orange primary? Also, I got the holeshot helix as well, will that work with the stock secondary spring? I am just going to be running stage 1 evo tuning and evo exhaust. thanks

Yes, you are correct....the orange secondary spring is a separate piece and your stock secondary spring will work great with the holeshot helix and the big venom kit.

I found some older posts regarding your clutching for the 2014 Viper, I just bought one with 1450 miles, didn't get a chance to ride it, lost our snow. I ride in Northern Michigan and in the UP. What was your "Final" clutching components and did you machine both clutches? I would have to get it done by someone (Ulmer?) I am thinking of the Ulmer or Straightline can. I'm getting everything done now for next winter.
I've read that you've machined your primary for Overdrive. My Nytro just rolled over 15000km, and I plan to do some clutch work and install 2 speed turk setup. When you machine for overdrive do you only machine the bottom faces of the clutch sheaves, or have you changed the angle at all? Cheers

Just straight cuts on the bottom faces of the sheaves...then radius the corner with a file and emery cloth to blend in the angle
Hey Nos-Pro. I'm looking at a thunder products clutch kit for my stock sidewinder ltx-le..with studs.... how do you think this kit will affect top end speed? Which belt should I use? Thanks!

Thunder Products kit is designed to improve the entire range...bottom to top, but still giving a very low 2400 engagement rpm so you can pull up to a gas pump, cross a road or load a trailer with ease....not high engagement so you spin the track all the time. Plus the low engagement will work awesome for those in the deep snow as the sled will crawl on top of the snow instead of digging holes.

Gearing is limited in the Sidewinder and you will want to check what gearing you may have. I think the LE came with gearing that will come out of the hole like a scared rabbit, but you will run out of gear at 100mph. A clutch kit won't help with top speed if you run out of gearing. Just being honest.
Hey Nos-Pro! I have a nytro mtx and I put a slip on pipe and fuel controller on last year and when I hit the gas I'm now hitting the rev limiter. I know I need to add some weight and was thinking about getting the heavy hitters. What weight should I start at and how much adjustablity is there? Thanks!

Go with the 48 gram weights and you will be set :)
They will go up to middle 50's for total weight....more than enough.

Hi Nos-Pro. I have a 2012 Vector with a very noisy primary, at just over 18,000 KM. I added the Schmidt Bros quiet kit but there was no improvement. I read about the stub shaft from the crank so I pulled the primary yesterday and while I did not remove the stub shaft, I could feel virtually zero movement. I am thinking I maybe need a rebuild, but would really like your opinion as to most likely culprit.

    TIA,

No, if there is....I don't know as I purchase everything separately from Yamaha (weight bushings, clutch cover bushing, moveable sheave bushing, plastic shoes for the spider, rollers and washers). The clutch also has to be taken apart where you need a grunt tool. These tools are not cheap, so people have their Yamaha dealer take it apart.

    Hope this helps

How do the sheaves look? If really used, there will be cracks at the bottom by the main shaft. For what you can buy sheaves and parts for, you could get a clutch from Barn of Parts for $250

Hey Nos- pro I am thinking of getting a Big venom clutch kit, I can tinker a bit but I have never done a clutch kit. Is this kit pretty simple to install and fine tune? Thanks for any info you may have.

    Hi olite72 :)
Yes, the kit is very simple to install and there is a video of the installation in the thread "Big Venom Kit". Lonn from Thunder Products has also included a manual that is very helpful in fine tuning the weights to your liking. When ordering a kit, tell Lonn your information and the weights will come pre-assembled and be very very close if not spot on to your riding, weight and altitude :)

Hi Terry ! My name is Alain and I from Quebec. I saw a fews post from you about your Clutching since last winter. Thank you are very generous to help us.My LTX is stock .I just bought mbrp can .
Now I have to make choice for the best set up . I'm not sure if the 8fp weight are the best for the acceleration corner to corner , drag , etc? Did you had a chance to compare your set up with the others like DD, ulmer, etc.

Hi Alain, the 8FP weights put a lot of squeeze on the belt (which I am running the 8DN belt now) and really can be used for off-trail, accceleration and drag. It's how much of a rivot you use at what elevation. I am down low at about 600-1000 feet elevation. If you are higher elevation, you need less weight.
