Engine weight and 01 or 02 machines?

Moseus, I am also very interested in aviation and have wondered what an R-1 motor would be like in a small plane for over a year now. I was considering putting one in a Zenith CH701 on skiis. 120' departures on grass at 25mph! 8) I think the 998cc engine would be great for this application but...

    Overheating?

I too was very surprised to hear it start up in those temps but it has always started, a fully charged battery and 0W40 fully synthetic oil plus turn it over 4 times for 5 second intervals and it roars to life. I love this sled. I will buy a heater this winter because I hate causing any damage...

    Overheating?

Or, you could just move up here and forget about overheating altogether or at least until June and then you will overheat. LaLaLa Kidding, I know your not insane. It's -38C tonight and that's without the windchill. :D

    Ride with a Machz

"I'll bet it would take a turbo a while to catch them." I'm just guessing here but I'm assuming that a 300+HP beast of a sled with a 1.5 x 136 track and lots of studs would seriously haul #$%&* and leave any stock two stroker in it's snow dust even off the holeshot. No offense intended but...

    Way up North

It's spelled Ottawa after the Algonquin aboriginal peoples term for: to trade (Adawe) I'm just bored.

    Way up North

That is funny actually. It's more like way down south (1200nm) for some of us or somewhere in the middle for the rest. I can't really say I am way up north either because I know of people riding sleds 1500nm North of me on Ellesmere Island. That is way up north. Actually the most northerly...

    Way up North

Absolutely no offense taken, I just remember walking home from school at lunch this time of year and you could only see a dim blueish light on the horizon for an hour then it was dark again. It's not much better over here but at least you see part of the sun around 11:30. Did you get to ride up...

    Way up North

I lived in Inuvik for 4 years and have been to Tuk when test driving Doo's in mid 90's. You would be lucky to get a glimpse of twilight this time of year. They have good powder and no trail congestion ever. The ice roads are very cool. Riding above 60N rules.

POLL - How far do you have to go to ride?

Yeah LB, no amount of shoveling can keep it clear of snow so I often just give up. Our drifts get really big because of predominantly north winds in winter up to 160 kph. The only downside is it's -43C with windchill today and sunset is at 13:43. Oh well, it's all worth it when spring arrives...

POLL - How far do you have to go to ride?

I park at my front door and drive to work and the store occasionally for food. Trailer 1 mile in June to the beach (Frobisher Bay). Living above 60N rocks. Picks are from last April.

RX1 overheating issues who has had them?

Ouch. Maybe I won't be using aftermarket filters.

RX1 overheating issues who has had them?

Overheated twice but I rode for 5 hours at only -5C at slow and constant speeds on hard packed ice with very little loose snow coverage. I totally expected it considering it's a high revving 4 cylinder with minimal ventilation. It required an hour of cooling before the light would remain off. I...

    Electrical components and saltwater.

I managed to sink my '03 RX-1 in saltwater and I'm wondering what electrical components will most likely fail even if I clean them thoroughly. Magneto, starter, voltage regulator etc... It did run after that terrible incident so I'm thinking the main wire harness and wires are OK. I want to fix...

I think I understand now, 8FU is the best, even better than 5LV. :o|

Oil Usage Poll-please read even if you don't burn oil

I'm rebuilding my '03 piece by piece from the ground up and would like to avoid any problems with my original rings. Can you please clarify? - 5LV is for the bike and is better because it makes a better seal? I'll post some pics of the project sled soon. -05 seat, lighter battery, 44''arms...

    June 6 in the mountains.

Our winter starts in about November and ends in early July, or when the icebreaker comes in to Frobisher Bay. It's awesome because you only trailer 1 mile from your house and you don't need to travel up to 10000 feet to get snow. We had powder up to our waist even at sea level that day. The snow...

    June 6 in the mountains.

Sunset is now at 10:43 and sunrise at 2:23. Found some amazing powder on these hidden northfaces. Nunavut rules. :D :D :D

I bent my ski spindles back and the right side bent inward.

Thanks, The picture above the window is the view out my living room window where I park my sled. We always get drifted in bad in this part of town. I'm just waiting for some guy to come crashing through my living room on a sled because there is a trail right near where my machine is parked.

Thanks, killer house you've got there. I just bought a small apartment type condo and it really sucks not having a garage for my toys. My next project will be building a house with a two truck garage.
