How many of you have had overheating with your shorty RX1s? What was the remedy? Did you pay to get fixed, do it yourself, Yami paid for? Year of your sled.

I have an '04 shorty - The only time my sled overheated was when I left it running on a slope so I could see what I was doing to clear a tree at night. One more reason to carry a flashlight.

Some XC's had a problem if there wasn't enough snow, I don't know if that's your case? - they also forgot to put a lock-nut on the pump impeller, which would back off sometimes and put them in "limp" mode.

MY 02 viper overheated badly in the u.p. 4 times..

My first warrior overheated 2 times in one day..

Yamaha blames this on letting the sled idle too long and riding on extremely packed snow or poor snow conditions or riding at a constant throttle position!!

The cure..... adding an extra cooler!

I had my 03 shut off a few times letting it idle to long...also had the lights flash at me when I was trail riding on really icy trails with very little snow dust but once I varied the throttle the light would go out....I was actually thinking of getting a rear exchanger for my 05 just for that reason (ICY TRAIL) but even racing on the lakes I have not seen the light come on yet on my 05.

My 03 RX1 Mountain over heated at about 300 miles and continued to over heat untill I put ice scratchers on. This was back before Yamaha extra had coolers. Yamaha told me that they don't have over heating isues with this sled. It's because THAY don't. Their customers did. So if there is no problem with over heating, why did thay go to all of the problem to enginer and market rear coolers? Thay started with the Mountain 1st. Cost me $85.00, and cost my Yamaha dealer a customer. Probably even Yamaha lost me as a customer. I have so much money in my sled that I will ride for a long time. I like my sled, just not the wasy I was treated as a customer. :4STroke:

I have had a couple of instances of overheating on my '03. Happened when riding very icy frozen trails. I am waiting for Yamaha to produce the rear exchanger then will see if this solves the problem.

I had shutdown once, and saw the light once.

Shutdown was when I was using the headlight as a worklight while digging out someone's truck that was stuck.

Light blinked after driving about 1/2 mile slowly on DRY pavement in WARM spring weather.

Was once an 03 shorty. Now its...???

Overheated twice but I rode for 5 hours at only -5C at slow and constant speeds on hard packed ice with very little loose snow coverage. I totally expected it considering it's a high revving 4 cylinder with minimal ventilation. It required an hour of cooling before the light would remain off. I think one contributing factor is the huge stock airbox obstructing the flow of cool air coming in from the vents. I'm trying ice scratchers and new air filters this year. Should do the trick but I'm only guessing.

I have a 04 and on hard back trails the light is on and off a lot. If I can get any loose snow the light goes oee. Early in the morning it happends a lot. I just put on SKI Doos skis with scratchers hoping this will help.. I hate to admitt that I have something off a Ski Doo on my sled. I am also runnimg an M10 which doen't help with limited snow, but the ride is worth it

My mountain overheated much easier when the motor was still breaking in. After about 500 miles it wasn't much of a problem, and I run scratchers now when it gets hard and never get a light.

Have some patience until you get all those new sleds loosened up a bit.
