I am by no means a clutch expert (I currently have my own clutch question going on in this forum), but I recently purchased a used 2014 viper LTX (bone stock except for 108 studs) and the Venom clutch kit (with the blue spring). I live on a lake and there was very little snow when I did some top...
.
Good to know! I dont want to make this sled less reliable. 102 is plenty fast for me. I should mention that the day I measured those temps I was out for over an hour (the engine was steady in the 190's). I suppose eventually the clutches and belt will get up to similar temp after a period of...
I recently installed the big venom clutch kit on my 2014 viper LTX dx (studs otherwise stock). Pretty impressed with the top speed. Had it up to 102 on an ice covered lake (I forgot to look at RPM). I noticed the clutches and belt seemed quite hot (around 140-160F) after a 10 seconds at 100MPH...
Thanks! great article. I was definitely surprised when I saw the limiter strap let all the way out. I figured that would lead to a crazy light front end and pushing in the turns. But it turns out the the strap doesn't really have a pile of slack even in the last hole.
I recently purchased used 2014 viper LTX DX that I would like to set the suspension back to factory on, so I can begin doing adjustments from factory settings. I couldn't find this info in the owners manual. Most of the posts related to viper suspension are devoted to dealing with the LTX SE...
In the Quebec market, a 6 year old sled will almost always have really high mileage, Ontario is a little better but you will pay for it. I think about your situation quite a bit as I recently purchased a 2014 Viper LTX DX with 13000km (~8000 miles) for $5700. It came with a brand new track, new...
Well... maybe that's the reason. While I love my apex for long tours (it has 23000km), its pretty hard to beat true rider forward lightweight machines in the twisty trails. No doubt you can make them rail through the corners setting them up (13mm sway bar, snowtrackers, low preload in the front...
Thanks for the reply. I was afraid someone would mention something like this. You really want to know that this thing isnt going to blow apart while spinning at that speed :/
Thanks for the reply. Yes I wonder about how stripped these threads actually are. When I was over tightening the bolts, they continued to turn without any increase (or decrease) in resistance. That's when I felt like something was wrong. Its very strange to me that I am able to snug up the bolts...
Upon closer inspection of my torque wrench, it was actually set to 25 ft/lb. Dialing it back to the 10 ft/lb does allow it to click when tightening these bolts, but I'm thinking those threads are stripped and could probably use some help. Perhaps an application of loctite blue might work? Also...
Hi all,
I was replacing the primary clutch spring on my 08 apex with a new soft engage spring. When I went to reinstall the clutch cover (6 bolts) I snugged them up (I thought gently) with a 3/8 cordless impact. then I went to torque them with a 3/8 torque wrench set to 10ft/lb. Well, the bolts...
Thanks maim! Just to follow up, I did about 350 km (according to GPS) that Saturday. rode from long lake up through the wolf loop and back. there were some serious whoops by Raft lake/Kivi but further north it was magical. When I got back I noticed my Ohlins had severed the wire at the...
I figured there would be too. But the ATV/sled suspension shop Pro-tech powersports informed me they don't have the parts for an Ohlins rebuild (they were the shop that charged the N2 and sent me on my way). There is a shop 4-5 hours away (you can ship them the shock) that rebuilds and...
Thanks guys. I will check out those places. Do I need to provide any spec info when requesting a KYB shock? length, eyelet diameter, etc? I noticed there were a few used Ohlins EC and KYB RA shocks on Kijiji (from APex's). The sellers want 300-400. Does that seem right?
Hey All. I have a 2008 Apex GT. I was hoping I could make it to the end of the season before getting it rebuilt but my rear ohlins has lost its charge (no clicks on the rebound damper), and I am planning on doing a pretty decent ride this Saturday (~300km). Am I in for a world of pain?
Is there...
Just got the shock recharged (30$). Still no clicks on the rebound adjustment, but it does feel like its pushing back on that spring a little more. I will send it out to shocktec at the end of the season. Thanks to everyone for the advice!
Interesting. I brought my ohlins into a Sudbury shop (pro tech powersports). They are going to take a look at it tomorrow and give it a charge (if needed). They recommended Shocktec if it needs rebuilding. If you get a chance could you grab the part number from your KYB. I found this number...
