I am glad I didn't plan to ride today. Worst part was the ones around the bottom. No power laying on your back. I will definitely look to rent or borrow an air riveter if I have to do that again.
All done and back on the snow. Key was taking apart both sides, and working back 1-2 rivets at a time until the bulkhead finally dropped out. If I had to do it again, I would get an air riveter. Thanks again to Hudon's in Barneveld for having all the parts I needed.
Ok yamahhaapex, I hear you, but where does it end. Bt the time I remove all the rivets, there won't be anything left.
Has anybody done a bulkhead replacement themselves? Tthere has to be a point where I have enough stuff apart to get the damn thing out so I can put the new one in.
The 2...
Hudon's in Barneveld had all the parts, including a new used bulkhead. Gave up on the welding idea. Anybody have any tips to getting the old bulkhead out. I started tonite, and quit due to frustration. Seems like I will have her stripped down to nothing to get the right half out.
Thanks Familyman. Got it tore down tonite, making parts list from online microfish now. Friend of a friend says he can weld the lobe back for the time being. Would have been nice if it broke 5 miles from the truck, and not 70, but hey made it home.
Hey Stomper, did you get parts through dealer, or thru one of the online microfische websites. I was looking at the breakdown, and there are quite a few parts involved. My experience with parts from Yamaha is about 2 weeks before they show up. Trip to Canada next Thursday.
Anybody had the cover around the handlebar riser off yet? Tried to get mine off today to check the coolant, and the 2 screws the manual says to remove only spin. Won't back out or tighten up. Called the dealer, and their techs have 2 more days off. Anybody got any ideas what these screws...
dealer fixed
Just a followup,
The reverse linkage was out of spec from the factory. The dealer adjusted it to spec and tested it. Then they pulled the chaincase and examined the gears to look for any damage. None found. Got her back last night. Snows comin' !!!!!!!!
No prob Zedo, snow wasn't a problem, the dealer thinks the linkage was installed incorrectly. Lake effect machine is kicking it up and I'm ridin' the pine.
Anybody else had their reverse gear go south? Tried to back her into the garage yesterday, and the linkage half popped out, now she's back to the dealer. I guess they are taking apart the chaincase to look at the gears. Not typical of all the other Yammies I have had. Wondering if anybody...
