I ran mine as far back as possible, and used a turn 45 degree turn down turning to one side. I havent had any problems with it so far, some say they have ice build up problems but I havent so far. Sounds good and I shed a few pounds.

Looks like a VW motor. Why those carbs? there is alot of other turbo options if your going that route.

Do you have pics of exposed wires? they may have pulled far enough out of the connector, where your not getting a connection. Have you checked your speedo sensor at the driveshaft?
