Thanks Robx. My big question is: Can I do this without taking headlight structure off? It sure looks to be a ton easier if I do. I have allen wrenchs up the wazoo so not worried about having the right size or anything, though those do look lovely 8-)
Potentially dumbass question #17 from me so far: All the videos I see on clutches getting cleaned show Brake Cleaner being used. Is Carb Cleaner no good? (I have a bunch of carb cleaner on my bench already....).
I did just find out that this sled sat since the 18/19 season, so basically 3 years. Maybe that's why she's extra ...sticky. Can I GENTLY apply a little PB Blaster in certain areas along shaft and sliders to try and help 'break it free'? Obviously, I'll clean every bit of it out when it goes...
When I push on the sheave - where the cover/cap was bolted with those six 10mm bolts - she don't budge a C-hair. I'm trying to clean the shaft and those curved channels where the ...sheave/spider(?) slides in --- kinda dirty in there... Not sure if these pics help, but, this is what I'm...
The enigma that is my "new" '06 Apex GT just keeps giving.... Noticing there is no vent hose to mate up to the nipple on the bottom right of the airbox (see pic of me astutely pointing to said nipple). Partszilla says this, I believe, this is a "Pipe, Drain", part # 8FA-1443E-00-00 (see #22 in...
And are these hose clamps that fasten the rubber boots of the airbox onto the carb inlets, are they supposed to have this bend/crimp in them; note first picture with the pen pointing to the "crimp" I'm noting. Other pics shows 3 of the 4 this way to varying degrees, the 4th is mangled. I think...
So the plastic red kill switch button was busted when I bought my sled a month ago. Ordered a new one and as I'm putting it on, I see that the rubber skirt that supposed to keep snow out of the inner workings of the switch/housing is all but gone. I'd rather not buy a whole new assembly...
I don't know if I revved up past 4k, I'll double check. But I've owned a number of other sleds and I'm confident that I'm revv'ing this machine enough for the primary to move a little.
I've already removed the 6 10mm bolts. Numbered them all and marked exactly how the cover/cap was aligned...
Bringing back this older post with a question, (please don't laugh): It seems like I need to remove the entire headlight/top-portion of the sled to get at the airbox/carb rubber boot allen headed bolts ...I'm wrong, correct? I read that I need a long 4mm ball end allen wrench, so I assume you...
My recently purchased '06 Apex GT is now running great (no coffee colored oil), fixed the damaged bulkhead where the front left lower suspension arm broke free, (thank you Travis at Barn of Parts!), and am now shifting my attention to the clutches. Note: I've owned this sled for about 3 weeks...
My '06 Apex GT came to me with a broken kill switch button; almost completely gone. But, just barely enough to stick a long needle into the side of it to slide it up far enough so I can start my sled. I bought a new one (interesting how I had zero problem finding the part number and getting...
Stoopid question, but, when I first go to remove the bolt holding the primary clutch in, I assume I'm turning counter clockwise; as the clutch spins clockwise during operation?
Also, I thought I read somewhere that the primary is under pressure so to be very careful taking it off. I didn't...
Update: It seems that the latest drain/tank removal - clean, rinse & dry/oil filter change ...and then refill shows no more coffee!!!!! Or light chocolate milk!!! Going to run it a few more times(5 min intervals) and then, if no coffee, put in the good oil and another new Yamaha filter...
This is all great information; thank you. Going only by what the seller shared, and I'm inclined to think he's being candid, I do NOT think this sled was a swimmer.
He said that he changed the oil, (getting ready to go up north for some riding), and drove it around his yard and into trailer...
Thanks all. Here's a pic of the oil in the tub. Photo taken at night with flash...
Preparing for multiple oil fills, runs, drains, cleans, refills.... Okay to use a "cheaper" oil? Same with filter?? I'll grab a sample and put it in glass jar to sit a few days. Thanks all.
