Guess I'm gonna have to be the one to disagree. Is Hygear's calibration better than stock? Yes. But the rear suspension on those GT's I have never REALLY liked. One of the reason's that you see n hear guys talk about swapping them out. The Apex rear suspension when re-calibrated is OK I guess...
Great point!
I leaned my maps out at idle so that they weren't so rich at idle speeds on warm up. I like to see around 14:1 at idle once warm. No need for the fuel to be so rich there, (I was seeing mid to low 13's when warm) and 11's when cold.
I also think the condensation you mention is what...
I've worked with Chris and the rest of the dynojet tech staff recently. I found them to be very helpful. And they don't quit until the problem is resolved.
I'd be interested to know what your fuel maps looked like before n after. And what the firmware update did.
To check fuel settings you need to have a laptop with usb to plug into pc5 module. And the software which is free from Dynojet.
To check ring/cylinder condition you could do a compression or leakdown test.
Do the easy stuff first.
Check plugs and fuel controller for correct settings and...
For that to be due to raw fuel it would have to be PIG rich. If you have the ability, check your fuel settings. If they appear reasonable, disconnect the controller and see what happens.
Could be a bad injector.
Pull plugs and see if one is REALLY black.
I had a guy that does custom upholstery add an inch and a half of extra stiffer foam for higher seat height and less sitin (sag in). What a huge difference.
One of the better mods you can do to an Apex.
You guys have me re-thinking this track swap I was planning. Had every intention of switching to the 1.25 RipII from my RipI to gain better loose snow performance. Now I may have to go 1.5. The only thing is it's been sooo long since I've ridden w/o studs that I'm not very willing to go...
VERY COOL!
Ya the "old" Apex's definitely have the legs up top.
Even compared to stronger and lighter sleds that "should" be able to outrun them.
That's kinda funny too because the basic engine design precedes the sled itself going back to the original R1 of the late 90's.
We discussed that. Unfortunately, backing it up under "supervised" conditions could be difficult!
We'd need a REALLY long stretch of ice and a VERY GENEROUS tailwind!
Although, I recently saw news video footage of what they called a snow-nado. THAT would probably do the trick.
The rider of said...
This is actually my boss' sled. He bought a used low mileage unit a year ago and is just now racking up some miles. Had the speedo sensor fall off and was re-attached as you guys have described. He showed me that today. We both got a big laugh out of it.
Although mine and Kinger's path for our machines are following different paths, they are going in similar directions. I've come to the conclusion that it may never be the perfect sled, but it may be close to perfect for me and the type of riding I do.
Last ride out it was still putting a BIG...
