The location of the spring seat is fixed on the one end (rebound adjuster end). The other end is the adjustable nut that compresses the spring and gives the pre-load. You can only adjust the pre-load so much before you start running into coil bind. Then you could damage the shock.
Ya I agree. I even tried the Hygear setup on mine and was still way less than impressed. Ended up going back to an Ohlins 6.1 spring on mine with the Hygear valving. Its about the best (for me) that it's gonna get.
So just eyeballing the pics, it looks like the front skid mount is moved forward...
That's AWESOME! Keeps us posted on the long term results.
You may have just given me the incentive I need to go R-motion also.
Though I plan on going 128-129 inches instead.
There has been some debate on whether an SRX runs better with an aftermarket can. IMO a can takes a GREAT sounding machine and makes it BETTER!
I was referring to the 2 smoke version.
Hey Bob, gotta agree with ya on the CBX. Possibly the best sounding bike EVER. I had a chance to ride one with a turbo once. The sound was like nothing you've ever heard before! And the looks I got from other motorist was super frickin cool. Like it was some kinda wild animal!
And the H2, very...
For us the typical riding destinations that are within a 2-3 hr drive either haven't opened their trails due to lack of snow/base, or only opened for a day and lost the snow. This has been an unusual season in more ways than one.
Usually western New York or the lower half of Michigan has...
I have never removed an Apex shock without removing the whole skid, but, it should be possible, provided you unload the rear suspension.
Trying to get it back in? I suspect that would be EXTREMELY difficult.
In the end, it may be better to just pull the skid.
Agreed. It's the same question I've been asking myself for years. How much dough should a person dump into a 14 yr old sled that's worth 3-4 grand.
Especially when your not getting enough seat time to justify the expenditure.
I think that may be 1 of the biggest downfalls of dealing with aftermarket companies. Especially on higher priced items like rear skids, or any forced induction kits. The company supplying the item makes enough of the parts to sell in complete kit form but, they just don't have the space or...
So in another post the subject of aftermarket rear skids came up again. So it got me thinking about how receptive AD would be to doing a small re-production run or "group buy" of their ZX2 rear skid for the Apex.
So I e-mailed them with that very question. Surprisingly, I received a response...
I believe that AD still sells replacement parts for that suspension. I wonder how receptive they would be to reproducing a small number for a group buy. I would be in.
Yes there is a club in Thompson, and a few others are skattered around the area.
My boss is the president of the Parkman Polar Bears club.
Not sure if the Thompson area has much of a trail system. I met a few guys from that club, some years ago in Austinburg. They had ridden over from Thompson...
Oh man you guys in Chardon get all the Ohio snow.
I live in Niles but work in Middlefield. Right down the road from ya.
The only real trails in NE Ohio is the Greenway bike trail area. And over closer to the PA border there are the Stateline Snotracker club trails. That's about it for us.
