So I’m headed to the U.P. On Wednesday and my new BOP big boy spring is arriving Monday night. I want to be able to swap springs on my ‘10 LTX as fast and painlessly as possible. Any tips for shock removal without dropping the skid? And how hard is the stock spring to remove?

I have never removed an Apex shock without removing the whole skid, but, it should be possible, provided you unload the rear suspension.
Trying to get it back in? I suspect that would be EXTREMELY difficult.
In the end, it may be better to just pull the skid.

The spring is going to be your biggest issue, you need a huge spring compressor or strut spring compressors.
I can walk you thru pulling shock without pulling skid.
- With adjust on the tunnel? crank the dial to full hard, removed cable byt sliding the boot back at the shock side and remove the thumb nut like a speedo cable.
- Remove the rear transfer rod bolt our of the bottom of the rear arm, by having some push down on the rear of the sled slightly.
- Once that's out the skid is no longer coupled, not raise rear of sled and let suspension hang and unbolt rear shock.

Very good. I had wondered if I would need to remove transfer rod. I believe I can get my hands on some type of compressor with out much difficulty. And if she don’t go back in, I’ll have it on a lift so I should have no problem pulling the skid. I’ve done it a dozen times on my SRX, so I’m sure it isn’t that much different.
