So in another post the subject of aftermarket rear skids came up again. So it got me thinking about how receptive AD would be to doing a small re-production run or "group buy" of their ZX2 rear skid for the Apex.

So I e-mailed them with that very question. Surprisingly, I received a response from them in less than a few hours time. Here is their response.

Dear Dave,

I appreciate your offer, but the availability of the components of this product is of too much concern.

Unfortunately, we cannot produce this product again.

Sorry,

Best regards,

Denis

Well, probably NOT what some of us would have liked to have heard but, guess it puts a big period on that subject.

Heck, I would be happy if I could get some replacement bushings for the upper axle on my Expert-X I run in my RX-1.

I can't find any patents on this skid, but I have a few contacts in composite industry. I aksed if they could make me the rails but the material they used is the mystery! I think its what gives the flex and feel I like. I was hot and heavy to replicate in all Carbon but I don't think it would ride the same but I may try that sometime anyway. They did the hard part we just need to replicate it in a different material, the geometry was amazing.

I think that may be 1 of the biggest downfalls of dealing with aftermarket companies. Especially on higher priced items like rear skids, or any forced induction kits. The company supplying the item makes enough of the parts to sell in complete kit form but, they just don't have the space or demand to justify keeping spare's on their shelves.

Or worse yet, the company goes out of business.

Unfortunately, we've all seen just how much turnover there is in our sport. Far too many GOOD companies have come and gone.

And this Corona gets in the way of things ...can’t produce this product but maybe a different better one ?! ?
