We use set screw with the allen head. better than studs because you can just remove nut and use allen wrench to screw out set screw. no fighting with muffler.
I would go with the plastic unless you’re doing a mountain sled or drag racing only. Non studded for trail. The plastic is very strong. You’ll never have a problem with the durability.
The aluminum wheels are not known to be good for trail riders because they don’t usually have any rubber on them and the stud heads will start to mash them up. The ones that have rubber it don’t usually last. It’s a harsh environment with rocks and ice and getting snow blasted and it will not...
JT Products makes these 5.5” idler wheels to replace the oem thin plastic junk. We use the larger 6304rs bearings and have had very good luck with these. they will run on stud heads without issues.
