It ran fine after I got it started. Only been an issue on the last 2 cold starts after sitting a few weeks. Sputters runs rough, smell the fuel, crack throttle slightly and it starts. Then runs fine the rest of the day. Also started fine the next day after sitting overnight. I hear people talk...
Rode it for an hour definitely got up to temp. Seems like if it had a fouled plug would run rough. Ran fine, just an issue with the last 2 cold starts.
Follow up since my last post. Sleds been sitting 2 weeks since I last had the issue. Not real cold today 20F. Cranked fine started to fire then sputtered. Stayed on the key for 20 seconds just wouldn’t catch to start. Waited a minute tried to restart sputtered again can’t quite start, cracked...
Yep that’s what happened on the last start. Let off the key before it was started. Cranked again and was surprised I could smell the fuel already and knew I was done. Wasn’t that cold out, shouldn’t flood on the second attempt at a start. I shouldn’t complain it’s only happened a few times in...
So every time you cycle the key and hear the fuel pump cycle it’s not dumping fuel into the cylinders creating a greater flooded condition? It’s just pressurizing the fuel rail?
So on question number 1. If it doesn’t initially start leave key in on position and crank again or turn key to off to recharge fuel pump and crank again? I turned the key to off and recycled fuel pump again, could really smell fuel after that.
Last year I had a cold start issue with my 13 Apex. I believe it was caused by a weak battery that just couldn’t crank fast enough. Put in a higher 310 CCA battery and that seemed to have solved the problem. This year my coldest start was in -10 and fired right up. Rode my sled this past Sunday...
Thanks for the quick response. Certainly worth replacing, part isn’t too expensive. Likely won’t know if it’s the problem till this time next year after the long summer nap
Strange how it’s only happening on the first start of a new season after sitting all summer. Probably had a 100 key cycles after the problem last year and no issues the rest of the season. It’s just like turning the key with the kill switch on and nothing happens, no lights or fuel pump.
Just some follow up to this post last year. Same issue on first start after sitting all season. Turn key fuel pump doesn’t cycle and no lights at the dash. Cycle key a few more times and suddenly power to the dash lights and fuel pump cycles. Turn key and fires right up. Tried a few more times...
Yes started several times since the initial no start. Nothing looked really dirty. Took a wire brush to the battery, starter relay, and ignition switch. Fuel pump cycling and power to the gauge pod each time
Just a quick follow up. Pulled everything apart down to the battery. Checked the battery connections, starter relay and ignition connection. Other than the positive connection on the battery a little dirty, everything else looked clean. Maybe just some moisture in the connection from sitting all...
