    Japans disaster

Duh, our country is the one that needs the loans with a $14+ TRILLION debt and $1+ TRILLION annual deficits for the foreseeable future. With Japan now unlikely to loan us money to finance our debt, I guess the Federal Reserve will print more US dollars and devalue our currency. Then you can...

    2011 APEX-SE---STUD LENGTH AND NUMBER???

I have a little over 200 miles on my approach and all is well. I will continue to update the forum as I get more miles on it.

    2011 APEX-SE---STUD LENGTH AND NUMBER???

Here's a potential solution to the collapsing tunnel protector mounts. I found a rubber foot at a local electronics surplus store. It must have been for a cabinet or a piece of equipment. At the top of the tunnel mounts is a 12mm nut. The bottom of the foot had a hole for a fastener about...

    Studding the 2011 Apex

TTT. I'm bringing this thread back now that it has been "officially" recognized that stud clearance is a problem that needs to be addressed. I hope the info here helps.

    Studding the 2011 Apex

Since I was under the sled taking pics of my aux fuel mount, I took more under the tunnel that show the clearance issues. Of all the posts on this issue, I am the only one that actually has studs installed. In the top pic notice that the EXUP control mounting brackets on the left hang below...

Yamaha Gas Caddy on a APEX XTX

Here are the additional pics that were asked for. The lowest point of the fuel mount is ~17 inches off the ground. The sled has 14.5" of travel so I am going to test it as is. I can get another 2 inches of clearance if I remove the reflector and shorten the mount.

Yamaha Gas Caddy on a APEX XTX

RotoPax does make a right angle bracket that may work in that location. It would require some drilling into the sled (which I really didn't want to do). Also, I wanted to be able to refuel the tanks without removing them. Not knowing how hot the back of the sled gets in that area (due to the...

Yamaha Gas Caddy on a APEX XTX

Yes, I agree. I'm hoping that I inspire Yamaha or someone in the aftermarket to give us a pre-engineered solution.

Yamaha Gas Caddy on a APEX XTX

Thanks for your concern. I've tried to take into consideration all the things that could go wrong and I will be the guinea pig. I don't recommend anyone try this until I can post test results. There's nothing under the tunnel to catch even under full compression. If the framework comes into...

Yamaha Gas Caddy on a APEX XTX

I'll try to get another photo posted this weekend. In the mean time, you can look at the mount on the RotoPax site. I did not make any modifications to it. http://www.rotopax.com/Mounting-Hardware/ Look for the Polaris RZR plate + pack mount. I did put a piece of black irrigation pipe...

    Studding the 2011 Apex

Yes they are (as I described in the first sentence of the instructions in my second post). I will be keeping an eye on things to see if I have to extend the extension further back. I don't think this will be an issue. If it is, another small strip (also cut at a 45 degree angle, but flipped...

Yamaha Gas Caddy on a APEX XTX

I was concerned about range with the 2011 tank being smaller due to EPS. My wife runs a Viper and can hold 12 gallons. When I drove a Vector our range matched well. Here is my solution. The tanks and mount are from RotoPax. All this is bolt on with no modifications to the sled. The black...

    Studding the 2011 Apex

Here's a pic: All models may not have the same clearance from the factory. Mine was too close to call. To each his own whether any modifications are necessary. Good luck! One more thing, I wasn't trying to show clearance in the pic, just the new extensions.

    Studding the 2011 Apex

I took on this project today and I have some tips I will share. My sled is an Apex XTX. Parts: (2) 4' sections of 1" x 1/4" aluminum flat stock [Lowes] (2) Rivet-Tite #47888 rivet 5 packs. These are 3/16" large dome. [Pep- Boys] (6-10) 6-8" nylon ties (optional) Tools: Right angle...

    Studding the 2011 Apex

I studded my XTX with 1.325's and it looks too close for comfort in the center section near the EXUP. I'm preparing to take preventative measures. I purchased some 1" x 1/4" aluminum stock and I plan on riveting it on to the existing tunnel protectors. I think this will work as the studs...

    2011 Yamha Sales incentives

I was hesitant to weigh in here but all the Yamaha bashing is getting annoying. Take a breath and stick your head up and read up on U.S. and world events. The US dollar exchange rate is at a record low vs. the Japanese Yen. Our pals at the Federal Reserve are printing money out of thin air...

    2011 Apex MPG?

If you go to the Yamaha blog and read the details on the APEX world record 24 hour run, there is enough info there to calculate the average miles per gallon. I came up with just under 12mpg but considering the high rate of speed he was running, this is a good sign that we will get decent...

    Any women riding the Vector?

I have a 05 Vector with an Olins rear. It handles well in all conditions except deep snow. If I do 120 miles + in a day up in Pittsburg I feel like I had a nice upper body workout in the evening. I don't think my wife could deal with this over a few days of riding. She rides a Viper now and...
