This forum like any brand specific gets pretty loyal. Its kind of like when someone shoots a huge buck, since it didn't happen to them it must have been taken illegally. Your results are what happened to you. You know the conditions and the sled you were running against so don't listen to...
Come on guys, at least admit the 06's have had an unusual amount of problems for Yamaha. My first trip I spent the a good part of 2 days stopping to put snow on the running boards and letting the thing cool down fro (overheating warning light coming on.) For the most part the problems have...
I'm not sure which dealer it was (Maybe Livingston Arctic Cat) did a single pipe shootout with the 900 a few years back and posted it on their website. Most if not all single pipes tested recorded numbers in the 162-167 range. Maybe their entire test was wrong but I doubt it. The test sled...
Maybe so, still doesn't change the fact that a properly set up 900 runs very well. Single pipe and reeds easily puts them in the 162-167 hp range and at or close to 500 lbs. They are a very fun motor on the trails and lakes.
My brother has a 03 with a single pipe, reeds and clutching. We both have 1.25 tracks, mine obviously is the ripsaw. I got 144 studs down the center and a ProLine clutch kit, he has 196 (144 center). He smokes me anywhere up to 100. We didn't race lone enough and the lakes/trails were soft...
Center to center distance is not the only factor in belt length. Pulley diameters must be calculated as well. I wasn't sure if Yamaha did any changes to the Primary and Seconday clutch diameters. I want to know about the offset as well because that can be measured by the SledPro tool as well.
Does anyone know if the Sledpro clutch alignment tool for the SX/SRX will work on the Apex? I know they use the same belt but I'm not sure on the center to center distance or the offset.
How are the Apex/Attack tachs reading for accuracy? I thought most who calibrated them said they were reading a couple hundred high which is usually typical for most sleds.
144 1.450 woodys gold diggers down the center. The tunnel protectors mount by light aluminum brackets. Take a pry bar under the tunnel protectors at these brackets and bend them out slightly (1/8-1/4") Jam a rubber/wood/plastic block in that gap so they cannot collapse. Take a rubber mallet...

Do you think you can reach the 5% OD without machining the helix?
Wouldn't it be great if our sleds had a jackshaft sensor so you could hit the mode button on the pod and switch to jackshaft RPM in the digital readout. I know this can be accomplished with some of the current EGT...
With the warm, soft conditions I expected the sled to steer a bit harder. I will move the mount to the back hole and wait for colder conditions before making any more changes. I will not complain about a little more effort steering if darting is eliminated.
Yes, thank you for proving nothing. Just because ONE sled got quicker yet seemed slower by loosening the secondary does not mean that my sled got slower by installing a proven clutch kit that includes weights, both springs and a helix. A kit that a good portion of the riders are reporting...
I've been riding sleds for close to 30 years. I feel my butt dyno can at least tell if a kit pulls harder. I might not be able to give you exact elapsed time gains but I can tell the proline pulls harder.
I have another riding partner with a Ulner clutched GT. We will do plenty of comparing as soon as we get some snow or get up north at the same time. This trip was with the wives so we did not spend a lot of time test and tuning.
I will until someone makes a 500 lb or less 165-175 HP 4-stroke mountain sled. I am temped to turbo or supercharge a Apex mountain but do not want to spend that much on a sled that I only ride 3-4 times per year.
