I'm looking at a used '03 Grizzly for 5k and low miles.
Does anyone have any suggestions on what to look for when I go to test it out...This is my first 4-wheeler.
Has anyone ever heard of a problem with the axle shafts. Did Yamaha make a change to the axle shafts due to the 660cc being to much for the shafts when placed in full time 4wd...?
Thanks

love Grizzly nothing out there like them, but dont buy a 03' they have alot of factory problems! Goto Highlifter.com check out there forum in the Yamaha section doa search on 03 grizzly's you will find tons and tons of post of guys having problems with theres!! You will find a few that say nothing wrong with theres but majority will say they do have probs!
Just a for warning! look for a 02 or 04!
Good Luck!
My 02 has been flawless!

From reading HL for over a year now I have concluded that the only real issues were, the 2003 axles being weak and the potential vapor lock issue with the 2002 and 2003 models. The axles were changed in production by Yamaha on newer models during the 2003 production year but no mass replacement of suspect axles on the part of Yamaha has taken place. I have over a year of use on the suspect axles without failure. The vapor lock issue has been addressed by Yamaha by a free upgrade of components for owners of 2002 and 2003 machines.
Any other factory problems I have read about are not mass factory problems and occur occanionally on any model year Grizzly. Also you have to take into consideration the use/abuse that most of these machines go through so there will be faliluers of components.

I have an 04 and only suck in steam once in a while that causes a small sputter. I usually only have to back off the throttle and hit her again. Most mud and water holes - it never skips a beat.
