I know this has been discussed before but I can't find it............we (son-in-law & I) were riding and the sled he was on just popped once and was stone dead........just like the kill button was down. Checked the 30 amp fuse under battery and it was fine. Turned out it was the 10 amp IGN fuse in the fuse box.

Replaced, rode about 3 mi., and it blew again. Each time fuse blew he had just hit a decent bump. Replaced with a 20 amp to get it home.........but actually went straight to a mechanic friend's house instead. We checked the wiring in the nose (that normally causes the 30 amp to blow) and couldn't find any rubbed spots. Checked all the wiring we could and couldn't find anything.

Sled ran fine for remaining 50 mi. home but I really don't like running a 20 amp fuse in a 10 amp socket. Suggestions????

TIA!!!

I would make a guess that when you were trying to locate the problem in the wire loom, you moved it enough to stop the place that the wire is worn thru. I woyld start looking at any place that the loom goes thru or lays on the frame. Take the 20 fuse out and put the 10 back in. I can take a look at it when I come up next week if you want.

tan wire in steering colum that gets pinched by steering stops, been there, found that. check carefully as it can hardly be noticable and short out blowing the ign. fuse.

Thanks for the tip, grader. We'll check that out tomorrow.

TV: I would wait but we need the sled for at least a couple more days. Bob & Nan just got here last night and he wants to ride some more, OBVIOUSLY

By "tan wire" I am assuming you mean the 2 light brown ones? One with cream/white stripe and one with barely discernible dark green stripe? We checked both of those all the way to the fuse box & nada..........well, almost nada. There was one little bitty spot where one of them had rubbed but it was not rubbed through. Taped it anyway for good measure.

Couldn't find anything else rubbed. Rode home (only 12 mi.) without incident. Any other suggestions? (Cause I really don't want to ride with $20 worth of stinking fuses :o| )

Go back in the nose.
The wires in question are very thin white wires. There are TWO of them. You need to remove the cup holder to find them. A visual inspection is unlikely to find the place where they are rubbed through since it isn't really rubbed through -- it is CUT through on a piece of sharp metal where it sits. Clean it + hot glue + a piece of clear rubber hose + electrical tape.

LB,

O.K., but we had that whole front apart and couldn't find anything out of the so-called ordinary. I'll look again tomorrow......in my buds heated garage. I'm not standing out in the snow to check now<g>.

Thanks!
