03 RX-1 Warning Code

My uncles 03 RX-1 has the wrning light flashing. It is the 2 long, short pause in between. The handle bar warmers are not working so I assume that is the culprit according to the manual. But (always a but) the engine symbol is also flashing the the same.

Is that normal for them both to be flashing the same code?

Yes. If you fix the problem, they both will clear.
