I am doing a pile of work to my rx1 like copper exhaust donuts, new drive axle, new drive shaft and jack shaft bearings and seals, front suspension bushings, pioneer performance steering bushings, spindle bushings, and bulkhead saver kit. I am unsure about a few things. Do I install the copper exhaust gaskets dry or should I put a light coat of copper kote anti seize on them. Also I must have the updated jacks haft and bearing because the shaft is threaded and has the jam nut on the clutch side bearing. Do I just leave the nut where it to help push out the bearing and how do I adjust it later.

OK, forget about the copper donuts, I already installed them dry. But what is the trick to removing the chain case cover. I have all the bolts removed and the reverse linkage disconnected. It will come out about 3/4" and then stop. It seems like it wants to spring back in and I don't want to force it.
BTW the service manual instructions suck big time. doesn't explain the steps very well or at all in most cases.

OK........forget it again. just had to disconnect the reverse linkage closer to the shifting shaft that enters the cover so it could swing a bit more

I'll be doing some of this this weekend. I can't remember much about the locking nut other than there isn't much to grab on to to spin. Remember, get your chaincase side all set up first and then go over to the clutch side.

Yeah that's what I "thought" I remembered reading somewhere. Thanks for confirming that. Do I just snug the jam nut or tighten it right up.

You want to tighten it real well or it will back off.

And that's exactly why I will be working on one this weekend!

Wondered that myself. I will put a bit on just for extra insurance. Can't hurt . I would think that the force exerted outward from the sleeve (threads) would act in a similar way that a lock washer would provide force in a linear fashion??????

When I replaced the one today it seemed almost unreal that it would back off. I wonder what I did wrong on the last one.

Yeah I screwed up and put the bearing in backwards. I didn't realize the inner race was tapered. She's all fixed now though. I never did put lock tite on but its tight

I just used a long screwdriver and a hammer and tapped it tight.
