I have found a pretty decent deal on an 03 Mountain in my area. I ride a mixture of on/off trails. What would I need to do to make this a decent trail sled?

- Change the track, or cut the lugs down (2" is too much if you're mostly on groomed trails, ESPECIALLY if you get icy conditions).
- Install the rear cooler
- Do the front end changes (to update the suspension to '04)
Drive it hard!!!

The more I think about your question, the more I think I would cut the track lugs down to ~1 1/4" myself. I've seen afew 2 inchers cut down, and the traction they get on hardpack is unbelievable (this is against the rules at the drags of course
)

i'm agree for the lug, dont keep it at two inche.
First, on hard snow you dont get traction, lug are folding, and slide melting
second, you will find yourself blasting other rider with snow and hard snow ball, and you will destroy a fresh groomed track.
But, on fresh groomed track, my god, this thing rush forward like a bull on furry. the traction is well over you will expect it, samething for the breaking.
Keep transfer rod adjust at middle, and dont care about bump, with 151 inche long, the skid is bridging really well.
Really not bad for a mountain sled on trail but it'S better off-trail

I've seen some mountain RX's go cheap. The depreciation has been more on those than the others!

If I were to ride my mountain sled strictly on trails - I would consider widening out the ski stance to RX/Warrior specs.

The user on this site named Kmer has a mountain sled and he rides it on the trails. I believe he bought a second track with shorter lugs that he uses when trail riding, and puts on the 2" lug track when he heads out west.
I remember the other thing he said was that the handelbars and grab bar make it difficult to read the speedo when on the trails.

One more question. I have a 10 Foot drive in/out V nose trailer. Any shot that it will fit? I carry two sleds in this trailer.

You'll fit being that you have a v-nose on it.

will it fit in 10ft v-nose trailer
I just measured mine and it's 131'' but Iv'e extended it 5'' when I went with the 159 track. So that still makes it 10'6'', You might have to overlap the skis if you have two long track sleds in there, Ken.

Length
Yamaha list the length on a 151" at 125". So, I figure that it will be close.

Or put both mountain sleds in backwards and bring the rear ends together at the front.
Track swap?
How difficult is it to swap the track on a RX Mountain?

mine is stock and 10'5''1/2
Removing the track is easy, but putting it in place, has been a frustrating experience for me. The mountain rear skid, is a little bit heavy. And the first time i trying to put it in place, i flip accidentaly my beer on his side, and she broke. Too bad
