I got quite the dillema here. I have decided to make the jump into the four stroke world, and so I emailed a bunch of dealers in the area... Now I have some quotes, but I just wanted some feedback as to which to choose. Here is a sample of a quote I got from one dealer:
2004 rx1 $5500
2005 rs rage $6700
2005 vector $6900
2005 rx1, I have one for $7500 and 1 for $8200
All new, 0 miles. I think my riding is more suited for the RS Vector, but that price on the '04 is hard to look past. Will I notice that much difference between the two sleds? Any other advice/tips would be helpful. I'm looking to haul out the checkbook this week yet (before the snow really starts flying).
Thanks.

Get an 05. As for which one, if you do much more than 15% high speed lake runs without a doubt, get the RX1 and possibly a long track. Id go for the monoshock short track though
The vector is not that much lighter. However it does have different front end geometry and is said to 'feel lighter' so it could be the one for you on twisty trails.
Damn, those are great prices. All the really hi-tech stuff is in the RX1 so for that little more, Id lean to the RX1.
Id get reverse on all these 4 strokers. Is that why you got such a big spread in the two RX1 prices??

Just talked to the dealer, he got the cheaper sleds on a repossession from a dealership that went out of business...

Looking for arm stretching acceleration and good trail riding manners get the 05 RX-1.
Looking for good corner to corner and more of a "on rails" type handling with great trail manners get the 05 Vector.

Personally, I'd take the trip to Houghton this weekend and ride the demo sleds before making that decision. Yamaha will have their demo sleds available Friday afternoon and Saturday morning for the TY group then the "general public" for the rest of the weekend.
I almost wish I'd waited to buy now because this demo thing is kind of like going to a strip club on my wedding night. I haven't even ridden the one I've got and now I can try all these different ones.

If it were me making the decision, I'd go with the 04 and have the $2k for mods, ECP/Simmons/m10/ohlins.

So I was going to go with the '04 RX-1, but I was too slow and he sold it... So I decided to upgrade to the Vector.
I wish I could get up to Houghton, but too many Christmas parties to go to... Looks like later today I'll be picking up my '05 Vector ER...
One question how big is the engine in these machines? Some dealer websites are saying the Vetor has a 699cc while the Rage and Vector ER have a 973cc. The Yamaha webstie says they all have the 973cc.
All I need now is snow!

They're probably confusing Vector with Viper and flipped a 6 into a 9... Viper is 696.
