After reading for about 2 hours and searching the yamaha online catalog, I am more confused than ever. Not a clutch guy by any means. My warrior has 10,000 miles and is a great machine. It has been everything I have wanted it to be. But I am noticing as the miles get racked on, it is slowing up a bit on top end and need some help.
I have had the primary and secondary rebuilt to factory specs at 7500 miles. 2 years ago.
My problem is that the clutch does not engage until 4000 rpm and will "stay engaged" back down to about 3700 rpms. If I remember correctly, when new it would engage right at 3500 rpms. I enjoy that engagement level due to the trails i am on that tend to be tight and twisty, requiring a very slow speed. Having the clutch engage at the higher rpm, makes it a little jumpy when trying to go slow around objects and most importanly trees. Also when going about 30 to 40 mph, and slowly release the gas, the clutching seems a little soft to react. it usually is always tight and ready to respond to less rpms or more immediately. not so any more.
When you WOT it runs to 10,200 to 10,400 and stays in that range. But the top end on the dream meter is not what it used to be. I used to see 115 to 120 mph consistently. I am now seeing more tile 103 to 110 in most conditions. I have seen 128 on perfect conditions. I know in reading this site ove the last 4 years that this last number seems a little high and most will say that is not possible with a stock set up ( I do have ECP filters). I do not "need" that speed back, actually more concerned with smooth engagement and mid - range.
I have read the different clutching set ups but get all kinds of confused when getting to weights and rollers.
So my questions is, any comments ideas? Not sure what to do. New primary springs, rollers, weights? Any comments are welcomed., Thanks in advance for any help!!!

the cheapest thing to try 1st is a new primary spring. i would also check all the skid and track bearings as it sounds like you have a bad one.

I bought my 05 RX1 down at Woody's Performance Center and took it back to Woody to have him do one of his power up kits. I have been very satisfied with his set up and they are very performance oriented. If you don't mind taken a ride down to
Thopsham I'm sure he could get things dialed in. At least worth the phone call to talk to Woody because it sounds like clutching with the backshift issue you talk about. Checking out your bearings is always a good idea too!

when they did the clutch service did they replace the clutch bushings. If you are getting any binding in either clutch from wear or belt dust this can happen. Maxdlx

Engaging at 4000 and disengaging at 3700 seems a bit odd. This could indicate something could be hanging up. Possibly, the Primary's main shaft bushing should be checked. I would also look at the sliders. But, these could be O.K., and it just be time for a good cleaning.
Is that a stock spring in the Primary? The engagement seems a bit high, which again could be caused by something binding.
What is the condition of the belt? If you have a significantly worn belt, the clutch will seem to be engaging harder/more harshly.
