05 RS Vector rear shock change

I think the Vector rear skid design is pretty sound. The Nytro rear shock made a dramatic difference over stock and I don't think there are any inheirent deficiences with the design. To me it rides as good or better than a Ski-doo SC-10 II or III. I like the fact that it has fewer moving parts. I guess the big thing to me is that is ahs not broke and works well so I don't really have any complaints.

To respond to the guy complaining about his buddy"s pro-x, let me say this; I weight 210 lbs. The pro-x has alot of adjustment and alot of progression, which suits my aggressive style. So, tuning/experimenting is the key, which I do. In regards to the OHLINS shock comment, let me respond. The magazines said, "... this skid strokes like no other Yamaha skid before ever has.." So, naturally, I thought, if it's too soft and crashing through it's travel, all I gotta do is apply some adjustable dampers and some stiffer springs that better match my weight/riding style. It has ALWAYS worked before when dealing with my POLARIS products. I have never owned a Yamaha before. And now I'm thinking the problem is, this suspension is "too basic". With only 8.?" of actual travel and no accellerator rods @ the rear shock, there's no way this thing is gonna act as I wish it would. It is a lot of sled for the money, but, what choices did they have when it comes to rear suspension design? Copy someone else's design and risk a lawsuit or ridicule from the press and/or general public? I suppose not.

That's exactly what Skidoo did when they copied the Polaris trailing arm front end in what....the later 90's?

Thanks for the advice. The Pro X owner was a professional racer (although ice oval) for a few years, racing at the Soo a few times. He is also an avid trail rider and is constantly doing trailside adjustments as the conditions change. (kinda drives us nuts) Both of his sleds came from Troy Pierce when he switched to Yamaha a few years back. His 440 was a racer and had to be put back to trail but the 600 was never raced and still in trail condition with stock parts. Maybe it's so rough due to something it's previous owner has done. It does the job well in the rough, but is very uncomfortable. At the end of the day he's frequently asking for some time on my sled for awhile. He's openly impressed. The 600 is ready to go now for another season, as it's been apart this summer. Last time out last season he broke a rail, torque arm, and blew a Walker Evans in the ditches ahead of me. Still rode it back to the trailer though. Riding with him in the group is a blast because he's always the one that sets the pace and it's a lot of fun! These are the only two Pro X's I've ridden but I enjoy my sled more.

Swapping the rear skid to better suit your riding style is a really cool modification. I really respect that as one setup is not right for all riders. There are many many riders here on the forum that have done it with great results and are more than willing to help. The thing that bothers me is when people that don't like the stock skid post opinions that those of us that didn't go that route must not know sleds very well or never had the experience of riding another brand that may have performed better. I chose to make what I had work the way I wanted it to, and I am happy with the results.

It's just unfortunate that there's no way for a group of people to get together and experience each others modified sleds. I know there's someone who would like how my sled has been altered from it's stock set-up. I just wish I could try someone elses set-up! Please don't think I'm bashing someone's opinion or set-up, we all are looking for just a little bit more , or we wouldn't be here discussing modifying an expensive sled! We all must be experienced veterans with a certain level of intelligence to some degree or we wouldn't have chosen this machine.

Sorry i have not been watching the site lately. I measured the demensions of the origional shock and compared them to the demensions in the catalog and the other yammie shock had the same demensions. just a few modifications had to be made. It has got to be better than the origional and is only 110.00.

Thanks yammie, much appreciated. Please let us know when you finally get to check out your mod. I'm certainly interested.

So when somebody posts that they don't like their skid, you stop telling everybody how much you like yours. You are insinuating that we SHOULD like the skid just because you and others like Oak Hill think these skids are good.

So there!!!!!

Well put Litre1000.

Undecided, well... not so well put. I'm not here to always argue with you but you try to make it unavoidable. I can't ever say anything without you jumping all over my comments. I'd bet if I said I liked the blue color you'd say that's because I haven't spent quality time on a red one. It really seems to irritate you that I like the way my sled rides now and make positive posts about what I found worked for me. I really don't care what skid you use in yours but I sure hope you're happy with the way it rides for you when you get it done. I am genuinely interested in your results. It sucks to have something as pricey as a new sled when you hate a major portion of it like the suspension. It's just strange that you try so hard to butt heads with me all the time. I thought this was the "RS General Talk" forum where both sides of a subject could be discussed. When you first joined you used to send me PM's asking for help to make yours ride better. Sorry I couldn't help.

So there??? :dunno:

My points remains exactly what I wrote..... It doesn't irritate me at all, in fact I envy the fact that you found your sweet spot so quickly and relatively cheaply.

I butt heads with people like you and to a lesser degree Oak Hill when they come into a thread where people are saying "I dont like this skid" and you tell everybody you like yours.

There's two guys on another board I go to and they're undies are Polaris logo'd, and you'd swear they're on the Poo payroll just to keep the Polaris talk positive.....pretty much like you, Oak and others do here.

This drives me nuts. :o|

BTW - the "so there" comment was a joke, but I know it didn't come across that way....sorry..really!

And my skid of choice is a 121" M-10, and it's sitting in the geeraage as I type this. I've got 136" rails for it too, which might go on later this year if I can find thr right price on a Ripsaw that's hopefully predrilled.

THis is gonna be one sweet trail sled!!!!!...for my geezer stylwe of riding that is!! LOL!!

:yam: :4STroke: :rocks:
