05 RX-1 ER - very loud droning sound at 25 mph, 6000 rpm

I think part of it on the 05 rx-1 is that the front of the rails push down pretty hard on the track clips especially when spring preload is cranked up(makes skid set farther away from tunnel, more track angle).Thats why i believe the noise is louder in the snow(snow is pushing the track even harder in to the track). When you accelerate the track gets looser at the front of the rails thus noise goes away.

I would think if the rails were tipped up more it would help greatly. As the track eats away the slides in the front it should get quieter also.

As a test I put some low profile wheels {from grass draggin)and mounted them where the front rubber bumpers were. With out the wheels I could really hear track clips hitting the slides on the stand ,with the wheels in it was quiet. So I tried it in the snow but the noise was still there.I think the wheels mounted 1" from edge of the track was not enough support to keep the track away from the slides in the front under then pressure of the snow. With the way the front suspension arm is thier is no room to put any wheels on the inside of the rails up front, they would hit under full compression of the skid.

Im not complaining about the sled I just want it as good as possible before my cat buddy rides it because i know he,ll pick up on it right away, actually being a cat guy he probaply wont even notice :D

I am going to guess the problem/sound is the ripsaw track. I changed my track on my 03-rx-1 to a ripsaw track before my trip to da up last week. After 8,000 miles on the 1inch finger track, I know every sound the sled makes. The first day I noticed the sound/noise you are talking about. I could not figure out where it was coming from. After 3 days of riding, I concluded it had to be the track. That is the only equipment change from years past. It only makes that sound in fresh unpacked powder. Pull onto a fresh plowed road with little snow and the sound goes away. I am pretty sure this is the sound you are hearing. The sound is loudest between 30-45 mph. Deeper the snow, louder the sound. By the way, trail were great last week in Grand Marais/Munising. Plently of groomed trails and zero traffic.
