I have a 05 Vector RS Mountain that will not start in cold weather. Turns over but will not fire. When I turn key on should I hear fuel pump? I do not. Even in warm weather. Just wondering if I should hear fuel pump engage. My buddies Nytro you can hear distinctly.
Was also wondering if they have trouble with the relays on these like they do on the Nytro's.

05 has carbs, no electric fuel pump. Pumps when engine cranks. If your buddies sled has fuel injection, has different fuel system.
FI didn't come out until '06. My '05 RX is hard starting especially if it sits for quite awhile between rides. Set the choke lever to full and crank until it fires. Sometimes it will fire then stop. Keep the choke on full until it starts.
When was the last time the carbs were gone thru?

Like thrasher said these sleds have carbs not efi and they need to be choked when they are cold. Even mine with an electric fuel pump for my turbo needs to be choked. if bowels go dry on these, they are very difficult to start.
cold starting
When cold starting these carbed sleds, do not touch the throttle until after it is running. The enrichener circuits rely on the vacuum created with the throttle closed to pull fuel. I find when starting a warm engine that I have to crack the throttle slightly but I do not do it on a cold engine.

Thanks for all the replys guys. I appreciate it.
By the sounds of it there is not much I can do to start my Vector in the cold. It is just a warm weather sled. I Ice fish a lot and it is -30 or more most mornings up at the lake. I have to put a propane torch and a stove pipe under the sled for 2 hours to get it to start. Looks like I will have to sell sled and go back to the 2-stroke.

2 stroke or 4 stroke, doesn't matter when cold.. Actually, I've found 4 strokes tend to start BETTER than 2 strokes when cold.
Anyway, carbs, carbs, carbs! When was the last time the carbs were cleaned?

I am guilty of not cleaning carbs. I have had sled for 3 years and have not done it. Apparently guy I bought from did it before I bought it but no way to confirm that.
What is involved in taking these carbs off? I do it every year on my polaris XLT. Is it more involved? Is there any reference sites?
Thanks Again!

Same as any other sled. Take off the panels, headlight pod, and airbox. After that you can see the carbs. Disconnect coolant lines, fuel lines, throttle cable, tors asnd then unclamp from the motor.
