Took my 06 Apex ER that I purchased used for a quick spin in the field tonight. (First Ride) About 3 inches of very hardpacked snow. Sled is all stock with stock gearing and is only turning 9500 RPM. Seemed to pull good and hard ran good but acording to the website it should be turning approx 10500 RPM. Sled has 1500 miles, and new spark plugs. Seemed to run great otherwise. Any sugestions would be great.

Thank you

New gas 93 octane. I know everyone seems to be running 87 but I already filled it up when I read that.

Worn belt will raise rpm,s. Maybe somebody messed with the clutching seeing that it is pre-owned. Do not try to raise rpm,s by tightening the secondary unless the previous owned mis-installed it. by tightening the secondary you are keeping the sled in a lower gear. It is like driving your car/truck down the hiway at 60 mph in 2nd gear ...not efficient.

The guy that owned it before me took it to Canada for two weeks and that was all the riding he did with it. He didn't mess with anything. Sold it to get one of the Flexible Flyer Skidoo's

From what i have seen, the sled will not go to 10,500 RPMS instantly. You punch it, it goes to about 10,000 RPMS give or take, then slowly climps up to 10,500. Maybe not holding it wide open long enough??

Higher octane fuels will actually make you lose RPM'S, you should be using 87 in a stock sled...

If you do a search you will find some good info on this subject.

I experience it myself, I use to burn high octane and noticed that I couldn't get much more than 9900 rpm's then switched to 87 octane and I was back in the 10.200-10.400 I had a hard time beleiving it! cheaper to operate on lower octane...
