Hi all!

Total noob here so forgive me if this is a silly question. I have been searching for days and can't seem to find the answer to what seems like a very simple question.

I just purchased this 06 Apex and am currently going through it to prep it for winter. As I was checking things over I noticed that the brake rotor is very loose and sloppy as it sits on the jack shaft. It has both rotational play as well as lateral play and the woodruff key is pretty loose in its slot. I took a look at the parts fiche, and it looks as though all the washers and spacers that are supposed to be there, are, and the caliper, rotor, shaft, etc all look normal...no excessive wear or metal bits floating around. I just cant imagine this is right though as it seems like it would create havoc while running.

This is my first snow machine in about 10 years, so I have no idea if this is a normal condition. I've owned lots of different bikes, cars, and trucks before though and of course this would be bad on any one of those.

Thanks in advance for any input. :4STroke:

It's a floating disc brake system, it's normal.
Check the break pads, if they wear Down you may damage the break disc.

Ha! Exactly...the engine braking on this thing is so insane, I'm pretty sure I never needed the brakes the couple times I have ridden it - which explains why I didn't think something was amiss before I physically looked at it and grabbed it with my hand.

I just took it all apart anyway to inspect the whole shebang and as I mentioned earlier, it all looks good. The woodruff key looks a little hammered...I may replace that to tighten things up a bit. Aside from that...I'm just waitin' for the snow now!

also as it wears one pad will wear faster then the other just switch them around when you get to that point with them

Yes indeed most everyone has reported that one pad will always wear much faster than the other.

I started a thread on this topic last November when I was bored waiting for snow. When I take my sled down from the storage loft this year I will take a look to see what one season of riding did to the new pads I put in last year. Here is a link to this topic where many theories are discussed.
