Whats up Yamaha Freaks!! Oh where to start? I have been on blown up, broke down skidoo's for the past ten years. I really got sick of my machine's falling apart. Last March I thought I was gonna be done with sledding and sold the rev. Well I kept looking at the forecast starting about a month ago and I knew I just could not be with out a sled. Snowmobiling is my life! I knew I wanted a Yamaha, so here I am!!

I just picked the beautiful red head up on thursday. Don't ask me lol? I have been calling it the redhead, cause of the red chrome windshield!!

It did not take much for my friend to coerce me to take it out that night. Yes trails are closed..... So we stayed on friends property...... um mostly.

This sled freaking rocks! 2006 Apex RTX ES/Reverse. 192 Woody's with the tall nuts and it has a clutch kit in it. It was the dealer demo sled with 1078 miles on it. I need to find out more about the clutch kit thats in it. They just told me it was an aggressive trail clutch kit from Bender, its engaging at approx 5000rpm's. I expected power but nothing like this, the power is every where and all I can say is THROTTLE RESPONSE!! This thing needs a headlight pointing down!!! Alot of fun, I can't wait to take it out for a serious ride.

Definately different riding position than the rev. I was already getting used to it by the end of the night after only 20 miles. Oh and that exhaust tone, I love it, I know i'm gonna be revving that baby up every chance I get lol!!

Well guess I need some opinions and help. Of course I want to be lead dog!! I have been reading quite a bit on here. Where should I start? Just looking for a few easy tips/mods that could help me. So far sounds like a 23 top gear is very popular. I hope TY will be my new home away from home (dootalk)

:rocks: :4STroke: :-o Thanks in advanced everyone!!

Welcome to the dark side.LOL Until you own one and put some miles on a 4 stroke you really don't know what all the fuss is about. Enjoy the sled.

Love my '06 RTX.
i also changed to a 23 top. not really seen a big difference yet, will find out with more miles. only thing to check up on is the idler wheels & handle bar updates.
maybe change skis ( i have simmons, original C&A Pro, & now Skidoo Pilots), other than that, ENJOY! you'll love it.

Whats up with the idler wheel's?

Handle Bar update has been done. Hand warmers seemed to get very toasty!

Yeah I hear ski's are a concern. I will wait and get some time on it. I love to make adjustments to dial a sled in.

How hard is it to get to the chaincase?

I'm gonna try to post a pic. Man the garage floor looks really crappy. All thanks to that oil leaking Rev I had!!!

Hey Mike - Looks Sweet. I like the ArcticFX graphics. The place I bought mine took off the graphics on the side panels, so might have to do something there. Can't wait to ride and see you out. It is gonna be a fun winter and interesting seeing how me and Woody made the switch! There will be more to follow!!

you should check or regrease your drive shaft speedo side bearing.these are a weak link on yamaha.

The sled is very reliable out of the box, but if you are a perfectionist, here is a quick laundry list.

1. Chaincase doesnt vent well, cut a notch in the rubber grommet in the dipstick handle joining the two factory cut channels. Also check chain tension.
2.Check all idler wheels. If any are getting bad, Yammi may go good.
3.Check anti-freeze make sure mixture is 60/40. Some came through 80/20. They overheated. 3rd heat exchanger is a good 45 dollar mod. Easy anough you can do.
4. 5000 sounds a bit high. 4000 would be it for me. Sounds like a lot of spring in the primary. 23T sprocket is a great way to go, but you may be already there with the RTX. Ckeck around here. I know for 07 they went 22/38 on the RTX.
5. SLP powder Pro's or Slydog Powderhounds are popular here. As is Bergstroms triple point carbides.

The list can go on forever, but this is the short list that will keep you smiling. I have 2 Apex's ( one for mum) and I have had no prob's, but I do take my preventative maintainence further than the average bear.

would you explain to me more about the chaincase vent well. you say cut a notch in the rubber grommet. Please explain a little more.
