Im buying an 06 apex RTX that has been sitting for about a year and a half. It is mint with only 375 miles on the odo. The guy Im buying it from has changed the oil and filter, drained and replaced the gas, greased the suspension, and installed a new battery. It fires right up and idles nice, looks perfect.... What should I do to this sled to make sure its ready for this season, anything you guys recommend I do since it has sat for so long?? I plan on riding quite a bit and I don't want to have any problems....
Thanks!!
Thanks!!

Treat the fuel with Seafoam, check the condtion of the drive belt. If it's OK, then gas n' GO! Sounds as if the previous owner did most of your preseason work for you

Re: 06 apex rtx sat for 18 months, what needs done before sn
I'd maybe run a little Sea Foam in it's gas tank for the first tank or 2 and maybe take it easy for first tank or 2 in case seals dried out -- and then drive the piss out of it. This babie is fuel injected so no carbs to clean!
Mind you, I am not a mechanic.

Oh Viper Dave, I just was distracted here at work by a co-worker so I did not press the enter button fast enough. Otherwise I maybe would have got my answer in first! (Not that it ever could have compared to Viper's Dave's sage advice!)

OOH, the SARCASM!! OK, enough HIJACK. SHanks, the only other thing I would STRONGLY suggest. If it has stock wearbars, JUNK 'EM! ANY other aftermarket bar is better. My personal choice is Bergstrom Triplepoints. Expensive , but well worth the money. You can get lots of miles on them and they eliminated (with shimming) my darting. Otherwise, ride it and enjoy!!

awesome!! Thats exactly what I planned on doing. I allready got the sea foam and I havn't even picked up the sled yet. I plan to put on a new belt and keep the one thats on it for a spare, drain and replace the chain case oil and dump in the sea foam. Then run it...
Can't wait for snow now!!

You didn't mention the carbides so I would check them. As long as they are in reasonable condition, I would use the current carbides and get some riding time on them before you decide to replace. In other words, get a feel for how the sled handles with those carbides before you replace with something different.
The only other thing I would check for is whether the previous owner shimmed the skis. Stock Yamaha's are notorious for heavy darting but installing a shim on the skis is a very easy and cheap fix.
