Hey folks - looking some experienced input.

I have an 06 Attak with a DESTROYED rear suspension. Long story short, MUCH $$$ and time wasted on repairs and suspension among other things has been a lot of trouble.

Anyways, I put on a new RipSaw 1.5 to start last season and it was QUICKLY apparent that this was the WRONG track on the this sled. No studs - tried that on the stock RipSaw 1.25 and had MANY more problems. Without studs, this track was losing lugs after the first run - 1000km/3 days.

To top those problems off, my season ended at the end of February after losing a rear idler wheel. After the wheel feel off, my track caught the rear rail and twisted everything up on the suspension and ruined the track.

Now after deciding to stick with the Attak - I love the engine but Yamaha really needs to work on the reliability and ergonomics of the rest of the sled - I need to replace my skid and track.

I REALLY want to stick with at least a 136" track but will NOT put another Yamaha skid on it. My quest has brought me to the ZX2 skid and then I need to pick a track. I like the idea of the Ice Ripper and Ice Attak tracks but wonder which would last better. I'm leaning towards the 1.063 Ice Attak, thinking the lower profile will last longer.

I ride 95% trails and lakes - 5-7000km/yr.

TIA - GiddyUp!

zx2 in a 06 attak

I have 06 attak, and the mono rear was crap! springs, revalves still crap. bought a zx2 from a member on here & it was the best thing I ever did. I was afraid (feels a little tippy at first) but broke in quick thing ride like a dream! I got snow tracker's for the front skees perfect for me! The track is another story (lots of choices) it's june take time to think about it

ZX2 on Attak

northernguy10,

What track are you riding with the ZX2?

I rode my Attak in 07 without studs didn't like the lack of control, so I got it studded - 168. I loved the control but not all the holes in everything from torn out studs in the track to holes in the heat exchangher, tunnel, rear rack and mud flap. That lasted until March 08 when it finally blew apart.

I've gone thru 15-20 wheels, 4 hyfaxes, had rails repaired after first season.

I like the idea of not worrying about studs flying out everywhere, but when you ride remote northern Ontario (I say remote because last years trip was 2200km in 5 days and we passed 5 sleds in total - I call that remote) and run back trails from Lake to Lake, the need for studs becomes quickly apparent.

Can anyone comment on what downsides I could expect if I went from the 136" ZX2 to the 144" - other then cost of course. I would fully expect the zx2 144" to be fine on the trails and would LOVE the additional off trail benefits of the longer track. PLUS - I would think that a 144" Ice Attack would hook up pretty good on take off :-)

I went for the 136" zx2 for now ! I went 2 studs per bar (but I'm cruising not racing, not to say that I don't giver with friends around, if it don't hook up it spins . I went with megabite studs 7300km no stud lost. the track ripsaw, great on trail, #*$&@ off trail. I love to explore off trail, but hate getting stuck! was thinking & watching the forums maybe a 136'x16 1 1/4 bombardier track. a little work, but the same foot prints as a 144" or 144" x15 1 1/4 . later when my track is done. I've seen these sliders saver looks like buttons that go in the closed windows of the track guys say it helps alot , But want extrodriver I hate when the track rachets. do a search on this site wich track is best I read quite a few, hard to make a decision.

I love my Iceripper XT sharp stud track for trail use. I have seen guys go to a 1" track and use it for only one weekend, spinning everywhere. Then next weekend go right back to 1.25" ripsaw track.
