109 on the speedo is probably 98 or 99 on gps. That is just stupid fast on a trail. I never used to be bothered by those speeds, but having just turned 44, with young kids at home and all, I start to worry about what could go wrong. The fun thing to do is to start to rely upon your intuition, and to let it guide you while you ride. So coming around a blind corner, for example, my intuition or just gut feeling says to me "riders ahead, use caution" and sure enough we pass a group coming the opposite way. Self pereservation instincts perhaps. I have to say, all groups we passed were very much courteous and maintained good speeds and form. I think that is a positive sign. In recent history I had close calls from out of control riders. Not so much this year.
Back to the OP. I would still recommend calling Ulmer for clutching / gearing recommendatios. Your dad should be able to pull another 10 mph out of it I think.

I saw 117 on the speedo, on my 08 Vector. Mine is stock(No clutch mods, or engine mods). But at the end of the year, I had all I could do to hit 100 MPH down hill. As my exhaust doughnuts where shot.

I swear there is nearly a 20 mph difference in top end due to snow conditions. So when I hit "112" on the meter, the next day it could be 98 max. It has been as extreme as 95 one day and 115 or more the next. Only thing that changed was the snow conditions. My sled never seemed to slow down with a busted exhaust or burned out donuts. It just got louder. Much louder.

Yup, I do not think it is 117 mph either. But my whole exhaust is just rattling away. And my sled has 15,000 miles on it. And I know the exhaust doughnuts need to be replaced. As the conditions where the same, when I went 117, and then when I wanted to go fast at the end of the year. I lost all top end. And at the beginning of the season, my exhaust was not rattling. Just from what I see, when the exhaust is rattling, and the doughnuts are shot, top end is gone.

But, I was very happy to see 117MPH, even though it prob was not that fast. And my sled is stock.
