We were up riding last weekend , switched sleds with my buddy , he wanted me too ride his Apex for while . He was leading , went about 5-6 miles thru the woods (30 mph ? ) , came to a trail intersection , stopped then started down the trail about 20 yards and the Vector just quit , no warning lights , no bang , noise , nothing , just like you pulled the plug on a TV . It had a slight smell of burnt wiring , kind of , he thought he saw a little smoke , turning key nothing happens , like no voltage . Checked fuses and all looked good . Pulling the belt off too pull the sled home I found the engine does turn over by hand at the clutch , only one way I think ?
I searched TY last nite when we got home at 10 PM and saw the battery cable rubbing thing , the stator problems , I was planning on checking for voltage and pulling the side panels and looking for a harness rubbing somewhere . Is there a master fuse or fuseable link (harness section ) somewhere in the system ?
I can't look at the sled till tomorrow nite so I'm looking for some more ideas , Thanks !! Doc

Master fuse is next to the battery. Take the air box off and you will see it. Battery cable rubbing somewhere in the machine is a very good start causing the fuse to blow.

Well , checked the battery voltage it was 12.30 , fuses were all good , the 30 amp fuse down by the battery was good . Then started looking at the harness around the frame , steering post , down by the cooler where somebody else had seen rubbing , no problems . Then I was looking at the starter and noticed the cable and the boot over the starter nut were black and brunt , stud was loose in the starter . So I'm gonna say I need a starter and directions too get the SOB out . Probably should replace the key switch in case it caused the problem .
I didn't have a key fob or the switchblade key in there too keep the key in the start mode , so I'm not sure what caused it . Doc

starter
You have to pull the motor to change the starter..And YES the key will stick with both style keys..I used [lock ease] and check the key position every time i start the machine.

I had that happen on a buddies sled once. It was the starter, his key got stuck and burned out the starter.
