Just bought a 2007 Apex with a 136 skid. Been doing a bunch of reading on some basic mods (air box, fuel controller) I dont want to turbo it....yet,
Funds arnt there for a turbo or s/c kit. I'm wondering if I bought the ram air lid or did the air box mod would I need a PC5 or will a Dobeck work? Also if anyone has a used ram air lid and tune let me know. Thanks

I have been down this road with my Attak.
Its hard to improve performance a great deal on Apexs without going to a Super Charger or Turbo install.
Before you start spending money on mods, your dollars would be best spent ensuring everything is in good shape like jackshaft, chaincase, driveshaft bearings, and sliders ect.
The best bang for your buck would be a clutch kit. Ulmer Racing's Apex clutch kits perform very well, but again your clutches have to be in good shape before you will see any gains.
Most aftermarket Apex exhausts help reduce weight but only add noise with little power gain. The Excell sport bike like exhaust system was one of the better systems for HP gains. With an airbox mod you should be fine without a PC5 but with both Air Box mod and Excell exhaust you would benefit most with a PC5 fuel controller and Ignition controller. Again I found Allan Ulmer a great source for PC5 maps ect.

I have to agree with Bob, bigger hp is hard to come by without a power adder.
Yes, initially a clutch kit is a good addition. Bob mentions the Excell exhaust but, they haven't been made for several years and finding 1 used is nearly impossible. Bender and MBRP still make exhaust, but, as mentioned, the biggest benefit is lighter weight. And they WILL be louder than stock, something you may or may not want.
I had a modded airbox with Fix ramair lid on mine, and I would say it helped performance a little. Knowing how conservative (rich) the stock calibration is, I wouldn't hesitate to run a modded airbox without a fuel controller. But, a pc3 or 5 is a benefit IF you have a good map AND want to run the ignition box. The Apex likes additional timing.
The ramair lids do make more noise as-well. You can definitely hear the intake, and, it sounds cool for a while. On longer rides I had to wear earplugs or it got to tiring.
I still have my modded airbox with ramair lid I MIGHT be willing to sell for the right price. Make me an offer.

Yes I have gone over this sled with a fine tooth comb and it is pristine. I plan on a S/C over the summer time. Just was seeing if there is anything I could do for this winter to make it not stock and just get a little extraI have been down this road with my Attak.

I
I have no idea what they are worth used to be honest. I know hauk makes a brand new one for 250.00 or 500.00 with there fuel controller installed.
Let me know what you would want.
I ride with ear buds in anyways so noise doesn't bother me. I plan on doing a S/C upgrade over the summer I'm just trying to gain a little bit this year thanks

I'd suggest riding the sled first and get a feel for it. Pay close attention to rpms. I'm a trail rider and if I had to pick the mods Id do first all over again I'd go with a WRP seat and pivot riser but my first mod ever was installing yamheaters. Thats how/why I found this site.
You could also look into rebuilding shocks again ride it first.
I'd look into jackshaft bearings and drivshaft bearings. There is a very nice search feature top right-hand corner also check out the FAQ in the top of this. Going on 10 years owning this old tank I still use it.
