Ok, Well I had a chance to rip the new attak up and down a somewhat snow covered lake. I was gonna break it in according to the owners manual but by the time it was warmed up good I could not hold back any longer so it looks like it getting the motoman break in now!!! I,m very impressed with this engine, It truly does pull like a freight train. I only put on about 45 miles. In the first 10 miles I would only just crack it wide open for a second Then from 10 to about 30 miles I would hold it for a count to 4 or so and the last 10-15 miles I would hold it a little bit longer. I would only do that about 3 or 4 times in each step and then just cruise around and take it easy for a while. No real reason I did it that way but when you have a 1.5 mile open and smooth lake on front of you it s very hard to hold back with this type of power! As I said the lake was very smooth I really cant comment on ride or handling yet but I will say as this being my first sled other than a poo, (20years of poo actully) at very high speeds (100+) this sled feels quite stable and predictable which it good cause when going a hundred miles and hour you dont want any surprises when you hit the unseen bumps. I was worried a little about that as this is my first sled with a-arm front end. I woulds say after the first 25 mile I really believe I could feel the motor loosen up just a little bit. I think this could be one of the best sled motors Ive ever owned and I think the riding position although Its a little cold is very comfortable especially if your like me and your knees and back are shot from years of stupid decisions. I also think that the ride and handling will be awsome.
Now for the concerns, before I get to them let me first tell you that I,m a very very picky person when it comes to quality which is why I jumped to yami. Got out of polaris not really due to any major issues (god knows all my poo buddies have had probs but I lucked out myself over the years) but the lillte details such as buying 2 new poo sleds 1 seriel # apart and one is 5-7 miles an hour slower for the whole life of the machine or like my 88 indy 500 bought new has a annoying rattle from the sway bar bushing when stopped, I bought a carry over 03 700 xc sp and the damn thing had a f***ing rattle for the sway bar bushing! same easy to fix prob for poo on 2 sleds 15 years apart. Now I know some of you are thinking dude chill whats the big deal but Its attention to details that I think is important. I wish these sled makers would realize that if they are gonna keep raising prices that buyers are gonna expect to see what we are paying for and I think we should all demand more from them. Ok I get off my soap box now .
My first two littlle probs. One of the little black spindle caps fell out at about mile 5 and is gone. and second I tried to adjust the the transfer twice and the spanner tool the got spread out so now it doesnt work. I called my dealer and He dropped in the mail both the tool and the cap no questions asked. But my 3rd comcern is making me a little nervous. I,m not sure the hand or thumb warmers are are heating up very much at all. I did not buy an 06 cause I wanted to get 07 so most of the complaints would be fixed. It was about 15 % out and on high they were just barely even warm to the touch when you took your glove off. Dealer said the 07 has the new bars so I,m not sure maybe they are not working right of if this is a live with it kinda thing. Does anyone know for sure if all 07 sleds got the update or not? Anyway all in all I,m over looking these minor glitches because I believe this is one of the best machines produced, and is years ahead of in trems of technology, quality and fit and finish compared to the others

I'm sure you will love the machine. I got the GT version this year . I managed to hold back on the first 100 miles though. I haven't squeezed the love flipper wide open yet. I would suggest holding back on the throttle a little till at least 300 mile mark. Since these are long term engines , they are fairly tight till at least 1000 miles. Proper break in will go a long way to longer life.
The 07's do have the updated handle bars and warmers. As for them not heating up ? If your not happy with them take it back to your dealer and let them know. Might be a poor connection, something as simple as that.

Olsman good report,
I too hope the bars are warm in 07, I do have an 06 and will be getting the up graded bars soon.
The engine is to die for isn't it, the ride is good also, not 'better' than the new Poo just different, OK maybe alittle better because you can change wt shift and not compramise travel or ride
By the way losen and tighten the jam nut on the transfer rod with a hammer and flat punch as the spanner wrench is a joke and this needs to be tight
You don't need to apologize for atten to detail, you are in the right camp here on TY (Totallyamaha) as many of us are perfectionists when it comes to the sleds........... none measure up, but Yamaha is more consistent than the others IMHO. LOL
Welcome, ENJOY
We need snow here in the state of MN
My two cents

The bars on my 07 Attak got very warm at -18. They heat up the best cruising at a steady speed. I had a 06 Attak & these handwarmers are way warmer. I actually froze my hands on the 06 on a few rides.

no problem, I was wondering what all was updated for 07
My first impression of the 07 heaters was that they don't work very well either. I am worried about it, but I have a feeling they may just take a little longer to reach temperature. My early season ride on Oct. 14th was very limited as far as keeping the motor spinning for any length of time. I'll report back next week, as I have tomorrow off, and we are leaving for Gaylord at 6:00 am. They got hammered with snow and are grooming.
Wish me luck against an MXZz 800 with full Crankshop mods and twin pipes.

I think turk hit the nail on the head, when speed is down more into the cruising speed, you will notice the heaters getting very warm, but at WFO speeds down a wide open lake at 100 plus mph its hard to find any heater that will perform perfect sense we dont set down into the apex like we did the rx1 or a vector, and unless you opt. for a larger windshield,or hand guards it think this is what you are going to have all winter not to burst your bubble, but you did say its a cold sled, and i will add yes it is kinda. Now lets get to the good stuff,i know the feeling of being unable to hold off,and i think you did the right thing as far as the throttle goes,i think there are far to many folks thinking you need to keep the throttl down on these sleds till 500 miles thats just bull poop, look at Mr.Sled he took his right out on rice lake with next to zero miles and ran wfo and got it up to 114 gps mph first few miles, than next weekend with only 60 miles on the odometer took it back onto the lake for another shot at speed and wow went 118 gps speed, and we did basically the same thing, after i had 25 miles of varied throttle like you did,up to wfo throttle for 10-14 sec. than back down,in the first 20 miles my rpms came up from 9500 to 10,200 to finally 10,500 with all stock clutching,on 4" of hard packed snow, and in a 1/4 mile distance it would read 105 speedo, again this brings me to this question, where did your rpms start at and what did they end up with at wfo throttle, and what was your top speed on the old dreamometer at least as far as you held it lol oh ya none of our 06 sleds that we broke in this way use any oil, just a bonus i guess...olsmann said:no problem, I was wondering what all was updated for 07

25 miles on my 2007 rtx , bars where too hot !
We ride lots of cold miles and have found the lighter gloves with thick wide protection on the outside , thin inside ( palms) are much warmer !
The thickest gloves are not always the warmest if the heat can't get in !

Mnmsnowbeast, The rpm's right from the start when you would punch it were about 9800 and would slowly climb to around 10000 for the first 10 miles or so now it 9800 then climbs to about 10300 or so after about 25 to 30 miles on the sled. I could hit 125 mph on speedo with less than 20 miles on the sled and yesterday going with the wind I had 127 mph which i,m sure is way off cause my buddie with 800 poo was reading about 106 and I was just a little bit faster than him on top end. I am very studded so I know I wasnt spinning. Thats another point, why cant sled makers get a speedo to work right? I will be running the attak with my radar gun on fri so I should know for sure but I,m thinking its off by at least 10 %

I just picked up the yamaha wind proof fleece glove. If the 07 warmer fix works these would be nice to use.

Wow that does not sound to good,if your speedo was reading 125 or so and the 800 poo was that close,i have found the poo speedo other than my confusion 900 speedo to be was off as well,my 01 edge 600 runs 108 speedo and mt gps reads 96 and most of our yammis are 12-15 mph off,but sounds like yours is 20 off, because you should of been going about 110 gps at 125-127 speedo, and if for some reason the poo speedo was dead on at 106 that would exsplain why he was so close, cause the 800 unless its the 02-04 were not fast at all,my 01 was a pooch 02,03,and 04 ran well, the 05 on the other hand were worse than my 01,but even if they go good they should be way behind,at least 5-7 sleds at wfo speeds, but than again you are going to get faster in the next 200 miles, this BS of it taks 1000 miles to get fully broken in is just that BS,ya the skid and crank are fully broken in at that milage, but your sled if running at 10,600,10,800 how ever you get it there,is almost all your going to get out of it,still it sounds good, and you do have the attak,i started last year on the attak, but now its 121 and i love it. Pete, I will say that I am not to to 10500-10800 on the tach yet so I,m sure there is some loosening up to do yet. I did not mention the 800 is an 02 with pipe, can, clutched and air box mod. I rode it and did not think it pulled very hard compared to my attak but when we ran side by side from a rolling start we were dead even for about 3/4 of a mile and then I started to pull away from him very slowly. From a dead stop I think I can jump him by 1 sled length but not much more.. My poo buddie has been talking a lot of smack since about june so I was quite pleased to shut him up for a while. even if it was just barely 1 sled length. I just wanted to beat him once now I ll never give him a rematch!!!

What conditons were these runs, glare ice? 109 is the best gps on hard pack snow, lake condition that I've ever seen with a very loose track.
