FrostyNutz said:Frosty, similar issues with my two base Apex's. The seats believe it or not lose there slipperyness after the first 200 miles. My wife and I both noticed this. The first two rides were like riding a greased seat.
I messed around with the weight transfer rod on the Mono to try and improve the push and inside ski lift. Made some improvements, however I am going back to trying the one hole up on the limiter strap and setting the transfer rod back to middle. I also turned down three threads on the OHLIN's we are running. We pretty much smoked the Hyfax in 500 miles. I have run 06 and 08 Apex's before and understand the wear and ride them, but these wore down way faster than they should have. I am studded so the tracks may have been a bit too tight due to fear of hitting the tunnel with the studs. I shimmed the protectors 5mm already. Personally, I really do not feel any difference in the new skis over the old ones. Power steering yes, skis no. Just shimmed them this weekend and will be putting some Duece bars on the wifes. If the problem of darting does not get better then probably will be putting some Ski Doo skis on the sled. I am not going down the road with metal flanges strapped to the bottom of my skis. I want skis that perform with straight carbides. The EPS is awesome once you begin understand the process of turning fast with less effort and the engine braking improvement makes the ride that much nicer.
Thanks for the info ! I was sliding all over the place so that's good news ! So you turned your Ohlins down ? Do you mean you increased spring load by 3 threads ? That's what I did and they seem to love it. Very smooth up front all day today with no ski lift. Hopefully we will get some real snow so I can stress them out a little more lol
Yes, increased preload on the Ohlin spring. compressed them three threads. They were seated at basically nearly loose. How many threads did you tighten on yours to notice the difference?

400 miles my seat still feels greased. Run secondary at 60. I would gear down 1 tooth on top with crossover track also...it,s a lot heavier then the ripsaw.

Turk ,, I was hoping you would chime in with some great advise ! Will the 2010 top gear part # fit the 2011 ? If i'm correct I won't notice any loss in top end as it obviously takes a long distance to get there in stock form . Most of our lakes/ponds are too short to top out the Apex in stock form. I believe the higher gearing will be a lot more rewarding in 90% of my riding. By 60. do you mean spring position 6-0 ? I have to confess that I have not taken the secondary off an Apex so I have a learning curve . Thanks for your suggestions ,, much appreciated
Spiderman would have trouble hanging on to this sled ! I'm going to Scotchguard my pants and see if that helps keep me planted. LOL If that doesn't do the trick I might try adding a piece of suede to each cheek
Another thing I noticed was on a hard braking turn, I hit my shin on the protruding plastic near the reverse lever. It's a sharp edge that might cause another OUCH moment sometime juring the winter.
Anyone using tank/crotch pads ? I saw the Yamaha version but I would like something more like the SPortbike style. I didn't have a ball breaking encounter but I can see how they might help in a couple of ways.

Same thing ,, 3 threads . I didn't try them in stock position at all ,, that felt too soft for my liking. I'm looking forward to some rough trail junk just to see how they perform. It's going to take some time to set up the front and rear to my liking. I hope we get more snow soon so I can get to work LOL.

Run the white at 3 & 3. By doing that & gearing down 1 tooth you will definately see rpm,s quicker plus it will spin that 50lb track easier. It took me 400 miles to hit 10,500 but have not been able to ride for allmost 1 week due to extreme cold. Any 4 stroke top gear will fit; they are all the same.
finally first ride
I could be wrong but I am quite sure that the shaft holding the top gear on the 03 and 04 RX1 four strokes were smaller. They didn't make it larger until the 05 models and up.

Thanks Turk , i'll give it a try and let you know how it worked out. I just compared track weights on the Camoplast site . The Crossover is 5lbs heavier 45 vs 50lbs. That doesn't seem like much compared to studs but it is enough to warrent the tuning. I'm heading to the dealer now I wish we could get some cold weather around here ,, no frost in the ground means an early spring for us
Is anyone using this type of scratcher ? Opinions ? I would like a set that will allow me to use reverse without the memory test.

I forgot about these ice scratchers. Who has the part number for them? I think recall it came out last year maybe at Yamaha Canada. I would like to get a set.

Just back from the dealer ... these new owners really know how to take care of the customer !!
They couldn't believe they were worn like that already . He will be calling the rep today to address his concerns ,, and mine. He said don't worry about it for now ,,, here is a set of scratchers FREE OF CHARGE and expect a call from us in the next few days with a better solution and new hyfax for your sled. I suggested a big wheel kit vs the extra wheels and he agreed ,,whatever it takes was his words . That's good business in my book !!

Watch those scratchers. Another guy posted that they bounce around like crazy and put dings in the bottom of his sled like a ball pean hammer.

^^^^ Got a link ? I have the skid plate on so that should provide some protection. I doubt they will help the rear wear point anyway but they should help with cooling and the front wear point.

Thanks ! I just had a look at it and it looks like the skid plate will help with most of potential damage,,but not all. I will mod the back of the tip to avoid any damage and make a holder for them at the same time. I'm really glad you posted that info ,, thanks again !!

I tried those cable scratchers attached to the swaybar and they didn't work. Still wore slides thru to the Alum rail in 250 miles. Notice I said to the rail? People noticed the cables hanging from the sled that is for sure.
I didn't notice they helped one bit.

^^ Really ? They look like a good design with some potential . I guess i'll just replace hyfax every ride until we get some snow . Then i'll replace them every couple rides . Seriously,,this sucks ! Just for kicks I might take the wheels off my renegade and try a new set of hyfax .
