I am getting a new 2007 apex rtx and my friend just got a zr800 with a D@D 870 kit in it and he thinks he is going to smoke me, So I was thinking if i pipe and clutch the apex will I be able to take him??? If not then what can I do so I can beat him? :yam:

If ur going for top speed the regular Apex might of been a better choice.
The 07 RTX has lower gearing (better acceleration, slower top speed)
Not sure how much difference the CK will make in speed compared to the Mono but i'm sure one of them would be faster then the other if everything else is the same

I don't know much about the D&D 870 kit. I have a friend with a 2002 ZR800 EFI and my dialed in Viper runs heads up with him. I have run a couple 2006 APEXes and they smoked me really bad. I also run very close to even with 4 different RX-1's in my riding group for reference. I think the new Apex GT will give him all he needs. Plus it might not be long before your buddy burns down. Take him out on a long lake run. That ought to do the ZR in.

Whoa, say that again? I asked the dealership when i bought my Apex ER and he said all three(GT,RTX and ER) Apex's are the same except for the different suspension set-ups. I asked him about gearing and he said they are the same. What is the real story here?? Which one is geared which way? I told him I did mostly trail riding through the woods and through open fields so I wanted acceleration...I can give two hoots about top speed.

For 2007 they geared the RTX down compared to the other models because they felt it needed better acceleration corner to corner and for moguls
it also has the CK torrison suspension (same as the nytro) instead of the mono in it for 07
the CK is better for real big bumps then the mono but in average and small bumps, or perfect trails for that matter, the mono is better
I would also think the mono would be faster because its lighter but they say the CK transfers weight just as well
For an comparison the Nytro is geared down and has the CK while the 06/07 vectors have the Mono. the vector will beat the Nytro in top speed by something like 6 or 7 MPH I BELIEVE but in a short race the nytro will take it
So unless u want to go pound the dumps go with an normal Apex ER
Compared to the RTX ER it is only 4 pounds heavier where the RTX got floats, and its 9 pounds heavier then the normal RTX
if u already got it ordered it is not difficult at all to change out the gearing if ya needs to
So if its tight and twisties and bumps, get the RTX.
For Quebec style trails, get the normal Apex
Also I like the looks of the the Apex more then the RTX this year...last year I thought the RTX was the best looking sled around and now it just looks like a nytro (which might be fun while on the lake)

You picked the right sled..

it has a 22 top gear instead of the 24 top gear used on the standard apex and GT..

It will haul #*$&@ to about 100..

should give the ZR a good run... You better get a bunch of studs.. atleast 196 1.325 with double backers.. You need alot of hook up to run with that big bore..

The pipe will do nothing for HP... its a waste if anything.. more of a macho sound than anything..

Clutching will help but only if you can get the traction..

No freakin way will a stock or clutched apex take down a Big Bore 800 thats running well.
I would have to agree a well tunned in Big bore 800 will smoke a Stock or clutched Apex, Now add a turbo and he won't keep up

Does a D&D 870 run better then the zr9? It's been my experience that the ZR9 doesn't come close to an Apex...especially one with traction. Knowing how our stock Apex ER ran I would even give a ZR a second look lol.

So what will I have to do to take him??

I would just run him once. Just to see. You may be suprised to see what these sleds can do. They get faster and faster as the engine seats and seals. It's amazing. I've already beaten both an 05 and 06 machs on the lake. I've got an RTX with 192 1.375 and a Hauck clutch kit. My sled, when it hit around 1100 miles, she really opened up. I would say to just run him when you have a few miles on it to see how much improvements you need, if any.

add 196 studs.. set your transfer for full transfer and give him a run..

Hopefully he wont be dialed in and you will get the hole shot..

Long run he is going to take you.. no doubt about that..
