08 Nytro ride review

Whoaa nelly. I can't believe how much better these skis work in loose snow with the front strap pulled up two holes!!!!!

Unbelievable, the front end actually went where I pointed it without having to use too much body english. quite happy.

Can't wait to get these bad boys on the trails, should be in the next couple of days.

haven't shimmed yet, and may not, we'll see. still testing.

I think I'm starting to actually like my sled again. Did I just say that?????????

;)! Keep us in the loop. I am telling you, that was the major change with pulling the strap up two holes.

Lucky 7, the Pioneer suspension package did that include the floats getting revalved, if so I'am surprized you had to lower them to 50 psi, that's what I ran last year also. They revalved mine and I was hoping to run more psi this year. It seems at 50 psi the front end just sits so low.

Obviously it comes down to preference. I am running more than I did last year, as last year I was running about 40 psi. I am not too hard on the front end, so I feel I can run them pretty low.

I think I've finally found EUPHORIA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Curves skis on the 08 Nytro absolutely ROCK on the groomed trail!!!

I have almost 6000 kms on my sled and today was the BEST ride I've had yet.

Gone is the inside ski lift - gone is the twitchyness - darting is minimal (hope to cure it with a little 1/4" shim). Steering effort is minimal.

08 Nytro + Curves = RAILING around corners!!!! Who would've thunk it??

Skis gave a world of confidence on the trails - & were pretty good in the powder also.

Standard nytro with front strap lifted 2 holes, rear strap one hole.
Compression 4 clicks out and torsion springs on medium.
Shocks were revalved.

Front end had upper balljoint mod done, new a-arm bushings, updated lower balljoint and soon to have a new front clip.

Curves work for me & my setup - they are the icing on the cake. Kudos to Sean & Nick for making such a great ski design. At first I was afraid I got caught up in all the hype, but these skis DO work on the 08s.

Rancidjo rode my sled and said the same thing - what a freakin difference from last year.

I went from hating the way my sled rode/handled - to absolutely loving it.

Trails were nicely groomed with a couple inches of loose snow on top.

Last test will be the frozen hard set up trails that my area is famous for - this is where the C&A outlaws I had last year sucked really bad. I'm hoping the Curves run as well as they did today - stay tuned.

That's good news Don. Can you post about how the steering effort of the Curve skis compare to the C&A's?

Matt - the difference was night and day. The outlaws simply beat you up after a full day of aggressive riding. Your arms/shoulders get very sore while you ride and especially the next day. They(outlaws) worked very well in the powder(better than the curves), good in loose snow, but were downright scary on extremely hard packed trails. They bite too hard, then at any moment - one ski would be 2-3 feet in the air when going around a corner.

The Curves - oh my - they seem too good to be true. Flat, PREDICTABLE handling. I never had this kind of handling no matter what I did last year.

You know I've been very vocal in the past about my sled - it's handling - & other issues. But now the sled goes where I want it to, without any fuss.

Steering effort is very minimal - less than the stock skis. High speeds, low speeds, didn't matter - these things just RAILED around the corners.

I did have minimal darting yesterday at one point as the skis wanted to follow another set of skis deep ruts - but I'm gonna add a small shim to the back to see if it helps.

I think(but not 100% sure) the lack of carbide in the middle of the shaper bars aids to the light steering effort. No - they don't bite as much as I would like on concrete at the gas station or crossing the highway, but I can live with that. I'm trying to cut down on my concrete riding nowadays anyways! lol

Rancidjo can verify how much I enjoyed my ride - I couldn't stop talking about my sled the whole day.

As of yesterday - the skis are getting 8.5/10 from me. If they work on the frozen setup trail & I can eliminate the slight darting, then the score will go up!

BB, what carbide did you go with?

I was talking to skyboz and LJ 452 yesterday about my ride on Friday, and I said the skis 'felt' like they were pushing in the corners because they were so easy to turn!!! But before I knew it, I was already through the corner.

I am psyched with everything so far with these. Like I said before, I am going to go to a full carbide just to see what it does.

I'm running the shaper carbides with 1.5" carbide up front & in the rear. I put on another 185 kms today on the same trails as yesterday. They were quite a bit harder than yesterday due to lack of traffic & had a chance to set up overnight. ZERO darting today - slightly harder steering effort than yesterday, but by no means as heavy as the C&As. Skis continued to rail around corners and I didn't notice any pushing at all.

Still flat & predictable - me so happy.

I agree the handling works so much better with the front strap lifted 2 holes. It's not as fun(wheelie wise), but the damn sled flies through the whooped out sections & corners like nobody's business.

I exaggerated a bit earlier when I said the C&A lifted the inside ski 2-3 feet in the corners. probably more like 8-12 inches.

I had 2 hints of inside ski lift today - maybe 2 inches tops.

Also - I can't compare the steering effort to the stock skis. I haven't put more than 5 miles on groomed trails with the stockers, so to say the curves were lighter than stock wouldn't be a fair assessment.

Not too sure how much of the improvement is due to the skis, as I too have had the rear shocks revalved, track swapped & studded. All's I know is - everything is working very well together.

If a dealer would be willing to let me trade my 08 straight up for an 09 - I'd have to think long & hard. Not too sure I'd wanna go through it all again.

Lucky - let me know how you like the full carbides. I'm pretty much done tinkering for now (I think). Finally - 6100 kms later - I am at peace with my sled.

I agree about the ski biting too hard and then having one ski 2-3 ft in the air suddenly, but I am running the stock skis and I'm getting that. I thought the problem lay in the front shocks (may still be, somewhat) as they would not give at all or give very slowly going into the turn and then collapse bringing the inside ski up as all the outside pressure shifted downwards. I'm getting a set of slydog trail skis with 7.5" shapers, and a revalve on the shocks in a couple of months (when I can afford it). Hopefully it gets the sled where I want it. Glad you are there with your sled!

i can verify that he did not shut up all day!!!!, i really noticed as i am having setup problems of my own on my 06...lol.

I rode it and even with my 300# fat azz on it it handled great, (did not adjust anything for my wieght), only lightly bottomed a coupole of times, held corners great, very predictable tracking, perfect steering effort as far as i'm concerned, no twitchy feeling....EXTREMELY improved over last year

Sean,

Would the adjustable blocks (Ulmers) be enough to keep the Curves on the ground without sucking the strap down. I am just a believer in the the suspension traveling its intended range of motion. Have not tried them yet but I will be in Canada this weekend.

Ok....to the duo at Curves. This is Marc the guy you told at the Syracuse Big East Show that if I did not like the new skis you would refund my purchase. Well, I walked away and was impressed with the confidence. Tail of the tape....These skis ROCK just like you said they would. I in Lanaudierre this weekend running with no studs icy trails.....no matter...still have a grin ear to ear! The more you push this thing the better she sticks.

Mods: FX Nytro Standard

Upper Ball Joint machining
Curve Skis with the specific Studboy runner
Ulmer Blocks
Bender Clutch Kit
Scmidt Bros Intake Mini Filters
Stock suspension setting
Springs on Full Hard

I am 6`4 274 so I will need some fat boy springs and a revalve of the rear skid shocks from Hygear and I will have this puppy dialed in. Sean, Thanks for the confidence and the design of a product that works as advertised! Looking forward to what other things you guys have in store in the future. :javascript:emoticon(':-o')
Way Cool-o
