Hey guys, my brother in law pulled all his shocks to get them rebuilt and the front skid shock is burst. Need a different one, anyone have one they would part with? He's bringing them to Carver performance, wonder what the chances of him having one will be.

I know hygear had parts in stock to be able to fix them as that's a common problem. So guessing it's same with them.

It's a common problem with that shock and repairs aren't cheap. Mine blew apart and took out a new $700 track. I liked the shock but didn't want to take a chance on another failure so I went with an Ohlins replacement. I almost went with a new customized Fox Zero Pro from Schmidt Bros which was reasonably priced but was offered the Ohlins by TY member. Hygear can do the repair if it's still worth rebuilding but you can probably pick up a new Fox shock for less money. Pioneer Performance is another good place for shocks and shock repairs.

I thought the burst problem was the rear shock with reservoir? The front one will do that also?

He stated that the front skid shock was bad. It's usually called the center shock on a Nytro.

Another alternative is this air shock made by Team Fast, I got it from a fellow TY member. I like the adjustability of it and it is rugged, going on the 5th year with it and no issues, I had it serviced last year by Fast and no issues, they actually updated it for free with the service. http://www.teamfast.com/index.php?category=store&store_id=277 it is $370. I suggest calling Team Fast prior to ordering it.

Gotcha Grizz, I just never heard of the centre shock bursting before. Not saying it couldn't happen. I've seen a few pictures on TY of the rear shock after it grenaded. Just encourages me to get my shocks serviced at sooner intervals

The RTX has a problem with the center shock body splitting.
This is what happened to mine:

Wow nasty! Any idea why it happened and what did you use for a replacement. Didn't realize the RTX uses a piggyback shock in the centre. I was only thinking XTX and the others are the same. Did they make a few changes over the years using different shock and shock type combo's?

Mine did the same thing a couple of seasons ago. I replaced it with a used one and watch it like a hawk! When I was looking, the Fox Zero-Pro seemed to be the cheapest fix but I already don't care for the air-sprung ski shocks, prefering the ride quality of coils. I would love to hear how much others like or don't like an air-sprung center shock...

Hygear believes the failures are the result of a undersized transfer hose to the external reservoir. They say it's to restrictive which results in increased pressure in the shock that eventually splits the thin walled shock body. Hygear can install a larger transfer hose and I believe they have stronger shock bodies. I looked into buying a used OEM replacement and having Hygear upgrade it but the cost was high so I looked for alternatives.

Kuzy, the fox zero pro is a coil over shock without compression or rebound adjustments. If you call Chris Schmidt he can set customize it for a rider so the lack of adjustment isn't as big of a deal.

I and a few others have gone to a Ohlins center shock:

Thanks for that Grizz, it's been a while since I looked at the Fox. The Ohlins are beautiful, just way out of my price range. I have a dealer near me in Buckhorn that would love to outfit me! Was it not possible to mount that shock upside down to keep the idlers where they were?
