1.75 Backcountry... Drop to 20 tooth gear or not?

20 tooth gear

So here's the deal, I picked up a 1.75X144 track for my 2010xtx at the Novi, mi snow show . The factory folks said stock gearing would be fine. I read a lot of posts that say a one tooth reduction is the way to go. I'll have the thing all apart to change the track, will I be sorry if I don't change it ?

You won't be sorry but you will be much happier if you change it

I had mine changed yesterday to 20 tooth for the main reason that the xtx 1.75 is running the 20 tooth gear. A buddy of mine changed his track to a 1.75 and ran stock gearing and it worked fine but like others have said I feel that I would be happier with the 20 tooth.

What you should be doing is matching your gearing to your track and your riding conditions. There are a lot of guys on here who seem to be running the BC as a trail track. If this is what you intend to do then the stock gearing will "work fine." I would however still drop a tooth, you've added a lot of rotating mass and you are going to loose top end because of it. Since you've already given up that top end you might as well gear for your new top end and pick up some low end grunt.

If you are a back country rider sticking with the stock gearing is, well, silly......drop 2!!!

Don't take my word for it. Gears are cheap, buy one and try it, buy a couple and try them that is what I did. I had a shelf full of gears when I parted out sleds and I tried all kinds of combinations and since then the stock gearing is the first thing I've changed on a sled. Cheapest and best mod out there.

Don't go for "works fine" shoot to maximize the effects of a big lug track by selecting the appropriate gearing. ;)!

X2 Revster

Couldn't have said it better.

Top speed gets knoced down when spinning an air pump that big. Also, I would recommend staying off the flipper when speeds get high. BC 1.75 and anything longer will throw lugs at high speed if you stay there too long..

Like Revster said, drop one if you trail and 2 if you powder ride (i'd go 2), but either way, it is easier on belts and gives you better throttle control where you need it.... which is normally the difference between being stuck and not!

Thanks guys, I do a lot of trail riding , I'd be a liar if I said otherwise. I ordered a 20T gear today. should be here wed/thur. I want to be able to go exploring with confidence. :sled1:

Gears

Does anyone know if a 20t gear from a fx phazer will work on a fx nytro?
The parts numbers are similar but the letter prefix' are different while the numbers are the same.

Thanks,

Kope
