I am looking at a 121 backcountry single ply track or a sno-x track from camoplast .... does one of these two tracks have a stiffer lug? or has any one used both of the tracks before?

Is any one taking the tunnel protectors out when installing the track to prevent the ice build up. Do the front ones need to be removed?

yup they all need to come out. Easy enough and heres a few tiny tricks. The ones under the seat have some rivits in the front that would require the gast tank too come of. Remove the seat and drill the ones you can see. Without removing the tank go under the sled and use a sharp chisel and cut the other rivits out. A couple good swings witha 3lb sledge and they snap. The front ones I bought some heavy duty cut off wheels for my dremel and took about 3-4 minutes. The little cheap wheels only last about 30 seconds trying to cut that off. Should help with ice buildup and gives you the room you need for the track.

I just removed my tunnel protectors.
Drilled ones out that I could see from the top.
Ones I could not see from top I used my air chisel. Worked real well, especially after I had more than 20 lbs in my tank!
The front of the top I did not remove the seat or tank. I did use a cutting disk to cut 6 " down the side of each tube. I then made a small cut perpendicular to the long cut. This allowed me to bend the end open to expose the rivets. Next I used the air chisel.
The front two I used the cutting disk. Cut out far as I could just to get the tubes off than I used the disk to grind down the welds so that they were flat and smooth.
