100 Av gas what kind of boost?

You might want to do a little research on avgas , because I've read somewhere on these forums that aviation fuel is rated a different way than automotive and that 100LL is actually only91 or 92 octane . Also If you have overheating problems it will only get worse as avgas runs hotter, Ken.

What?? Avgas makes things run hotter? Where in the heck did you learn this?

av gas

100/115 ll av gas is 100 to 115 we use to run on yamaha,s recomdation,s 100/130 in our 76 and 77 srx,s

there is also 80/87 octane for carbrator low comp aircraft moters as well 100/115 is made for high comp turdo charged injected moters there was also 130/145 av gas that used to be used in ww11 super charged aircraft moter like the spitfire. p51 and other high performece moters of the day.

So has anyone ran the av gas for an extended period of time. How many miles have you used av gas etc.?

Thanks,

J.

100 ll actually burns relatively cold, however in some application I have heard guys jet up a size with it. I never had to and used it lots when using NOS.
100 ll is guarantied to have 100 octane at a super lean mixture as often used on aircraft where the engine runs lean of peak(EGT) for maximum endurance. With a rich mixture it actually has a octane rating of 130 octane
Any high performance engine would explode if you run lean of peak so we know that we deal with well over 100 octane with AV gas.
The leaner you get the more octane you need cause the mixture gets more volatile,it lowers the actual octane of a air fuel mixture.
So next time you lean out a two smoke a little to much and it eats the piston you know why. We found that as soon as we went straight race fuel or I use 100 ll in the 4 stroke we had no more problems. Spend the money on gas it is worth it .
100ll or race fuel is a cheap investment in a very expensive mod motor.

So what kind of boost you think you can run with 100AV?

Thank you Skydog

Unknown until someone with a accurate knock sensor setup does some real testing, not the 'well i used it and it was ok' kind of testing. For now, still to what you feel is a little too much octane, and you should be safe.

I did over 800 miles of mountain riding with av 100 LL mostly around 14-15 P.S.I. with .054 headgasket . AvGAs is awesome in my opinion. ;)!

Turbo tim,

Do you use 100ll in your apex too? No injector issues with lead?

Yeah I have a 300 gallon tank at home , I use it in the Apex too , no probs at all so far ..........did I mention Av Gas is Awesome in Boosted 4 strokes?

$1.25/litre in BC. 91 octane costs over a buck/litre. Thats $5.00 Canadian/US gallon for the avgas.

Hey Turbo Tim,

Is your head gasket 0.54 or .054 thick ? I was just using the boost calculator and .054 makes better sense or am i missing something ?
