I just spent $84 with tax (Canadian) for a full synthetic oil change kit for my nytro. I see my local Arctic Cat dealer has the 7000 series engine oil change kits for $66 (Tax in) I assume the filter would be fine, as it even says YAMAHA right on it! Comes with 1 Gal. of Synthetic C-Tech oil, O Rings and such. Just looking to save $18 next time around.

If it is for the nytro engine I don't see why it wouldn't work unless the filter is longer . I did something similar when we owned Cat atv's with the Suzuki engine in them. It was $8 cheaper to go to Suzuki to get the oil filter then it was to buy from Cat.

40 bucks for those ebay deals to ship to Canada unfortunately. Also you don't need a filter every oil change. Yamaha says change it every 3rd oil change.

I looked at the individual litres of oil and they are 14.99 Canadian. The kit came with 4 bottles. I have one left over, so next year I'll buy 2 litres and a filter.

Yamaha filters are good for 20k same as the valves I believe, but for the $10-15 I just change it out with a new one every fall.

Also those ebay deals are decent, but like already said, it's $40 to ship to canada.

I guess that makes sense. I know oil sitting for 6 months isnt great to use yr to yr so i have been doing the filter ever fall. Guess ill stop wasting money! Or spend $10 and be safe. Good t know tho.

Never heard of filter every third oil change, where did you read that?

In the service manual. Says oil filter replace every 12000 miles or 20000 kms

The motorcycle engines are the same

No need for valve adjustments until 40,000 miles I believe

Ya I must have been thinking 40000 miles. Either way most sleds wont even see 25000 miles before they are scrapped/parted out

And my dealer says change filter every second oil change.

So whats the general consensus for how many miles we can go between changes. I normally only put on 1500 miles a year so I just been doing it every fall. Using full synthetic.

The operators manual says 2,500 miles for oil and 12,500 miles for filter, so if you take the any filter change recommendation from the guys on this thread your very safe. The biggest/ most important oil and filter change is the first. Almost all of the material trapped in the filter will happen in the few hundred miles as a byproduct of the manufacturing and initial break-in process, that's why the 12,500 change interval.

Looks like someone should start a business that reuses/repurposes the Nytro and Viper motors. I suspect that this is a 150,000+ mile engine. Few see much more than 25,000 miles in their original chassis.
