Well have about 650 miles on her now. Since I last rode I installed a OFT Relocator and this is a major plus in my book. I sit now more like what I'm used too and a huge difference in steering, more push/pull feel and easier. OFT has it together with this, top notch fab'n, good directions except they didnt send a crowfoot M14 so I had to go buy a set  ! I also put 2 turns on center rear shock but really see anything from this. Still darts some running 7.5" shapers, still have room to put a couple more turns on, might try that next.

Ok question, I'm getting used to the engine breaking, I call it the jake brake. What I'm hearing is a "whistle" when it slows down to a stop. I'm also hearing a "flutter" from the right side. This flutter is more constant all the time and runs with the rpm. Is this coming from the fins on the rotar? I'm asking because I dont remember this from my first ride.

The jake brake does take some getting used to, not used to driving it in that deep into corners, almost need a beer or two!

Gas mileage (personally I dont care) but I beat a 800 etec all weekend!

Any advice/thoughts?

Thanks, Robert

The OFT relocator is by far the best modification anyone can do to a Nytro to correct the awful steering geometry. I personally never cared for the engine breaking and would recommend an aftermarket clutch kit to improve your acceleration and almost eliminate the 'jake' brake effect of the motor.

Sounds like you need to get those skis aligned properly. 1/4 toe out for each ski 1/2 total toe out. Made a huge diff on mine when i aligned the skis properly. Even tho you only have a few miles id check the front end for loose parts just in case...

Robert ...Here are my findings (and brief setup summary) after 1200 miles on the 12 XTX. I too have the OFT relocate and have it since the sled was new so I can only add that the workmanship is top notch (since I have never rode an XTX with stock steering). I would say you should go a bit tighter on that center spring It really helped lighten up the sled after my first ride...Loosen the preload on them front shock a fair amount (check the sticky in FAQ's on the XTX). This sled performs better when trails are all torn up, atleast for me. The harder I ride it the better it seems to handle. I widened the ski stance a bit (look at your ski bushings) and run 6 inch shapers with no studs. Don't be afraid to make modest adjustments to shock damping (front and back) while along the trail. A few clicks makes a significant difference.

Good Luck!
It is a fun sled if your not afraid to mess around with the suspension settings from the factory!

Thanks to TY4 and its members who post some great info!!!! :rocks:

x2 on alignment. plus either get doolies or duel keel skis. the flutter is probably flat spot in belt. I like the engine breaking and have hard time convincing myself to do a clutch kit as I may loose it and have near 6000mi on my belt with no issues. mine is an 09, but rode a 12 and felt like the same exact same machine

sgilbert & raginyamaha, checking the toe, on the check list, makes sense, thanks for the tip.

snow broke, I was heading in that direction but wanted to try one thing at a time. I've read that too and it worked on past machines. Unfortantly, I dought I'll get another chance this season to try it! I'll read up on the comp/rebound settings over the off season as well.

Put it up on the stand tonight to check things out and low and behold I have a ripped limiter strap, wtf :o| ! If anyone can link me to that fix, I'd appreciate it, I know I've read it somewhere on here! This site rocks :die

Do the Schmidt Bros center shock upgrade. It will reduce steering effort and help keep the limiter straps out of the track so they don't get f--ked up.

What does the center shocks upgrade consist of?

A few other things I did after my first weekend of riding which was not so fun as the beast was a handfull...(food for thought for next season) 1) I took a bit of transfer out of the skid. 2) moved the sway bar to the forward hole...As stated by sj and others there is a ton of adjustability in this sled which can make it somewhat difficult to pin down. Sorry to here about that strap mine show almost no wear.

Again Good Luck!

Back at it, got the limiter strap warruntee'd and got some bailer belt, did the update (kkraus) on that as well. I started replacing the strap on the stand and after taking a break from swearing I noticed that the right side torsion spring hook was busted and spring was laying on the slide rail! The same side as ripped limiter strap. So I pulled skid out and replaced the limiter on the bench, much easier by the way.

Is this related? I'm guessing I'm lucky torsion didnt go through my track...

The left side hook looks beat up but not broke.

Thoughts?

Yea u are lucky...... that would do some serious damage and possibly lock up on you. Yikes...

I didn't like the engine brake at first but you get use to it! You can use it to your advantage when trail riding, go into a corner, let off the fuel and let the engine slow you down enough to make it through the turn and then get back on the fuel!

On another note, I made some clutching changes a few weeks ago and my engine braking is totally gone, still not sure if I like it but the clutching was worth it! I changed my rollers to 14.5mm and used a YPY primary spring, better acceleration and mid range pull. Got my top RPM down where it needed to be and I see more top end now too! Bonus!
