Hey all I used to know but now forget...
I have a 07 121. I have a 144 skid from an MTX, am I drilling new holes for the rear of the skid, or making brackets? Dont remember if there was a thread showing this.

Yes I have an 07 phazer 121. I also have a 144 skid from an 07 phazer MTX.
I dont remember if there is a difference in the skid mounting (I have sled but the skid is in storage). Preparing for after winter conversion.

The 144” phazer skid mounts in the same holes as the 121” phazer skid.

lol well if you are getting the stock yamaha 1-1/5x14x144 phazer xtx track, i strongly reccomend that you swap the drivers to 8 tooth (extroverts are better) from the stock 9 tooth as the track does not stretch enough to get the suspension bolts to line up. i still had a fight with the 8 tooth ones installed but i got the bugger in there.

I second this, I tried to put a 9 tooth driver/axle in my MTX to lower the approach angle and couldn’t get the skid back in, with 7000 miles on the track I STILL don’t think I could get the 9 tooth in.lol well if you are getting the stock yamaha 1-1/5x14x144 phazer xtx track, i strongly reccomend that you swap the drivers to 8 tooth (extroverts are better) from the stock 9 tooth as the track does not stretch enough to get the suspension bolts to line up. i still had a fight with the 8 tooth ones installed but i got the bugger in there.

I am using a Doo 1.5" crossover track (used).
If I switch to extros will that affect gearing?

If 8 tooth, yes. Equivalent to running 2 teeth lower on the top gear. I run a 18t upper so it’s basically a 16t on a shorty, run out of gear and clutch around 75mph gps. Your speedo will be a good 20% fast also, compared to 8-9-% fast stock. Not sure if you need to run extros, I’ve never had my track ratchet with stock 8 tooth and I run the track pretty loose.

if you are staying with 9 tooth extro's speedo will be fine. as i changed to 8 tooth drivers, my speedo is out 10kph vs the 9 tooth. 9 tooth you might need to regear. i am running 09 rtx spec gearing 18 tooth top and it is too deep for long distance running but awsome off trail. going to 19/41 in off season to match the xtx specs to get my fuel milage back in line. you should be 20/41 stock. if you can pull it great but if not i reccomend 19 too top gear for you as well.

I haven’t noticed any difference in mileage between the 18t and 19t but you are right that the 18t is a bit short, gets to the rev limiter @ 78gps on plowed roads pretty quick. I can pull the clutches into overdrive under most conditions but I like the power it has down low. 19t required good conditions to pull overdrive and I only hit the rev limiter once on a plowed road (83mph gps)if you are staying with 9 tooth extro's speedo will be fine. as i changed to 8 tooth drivers, my speedo is out 10kph vs the 9 tooth. 9 tooth you might need to regear. i am running 09 rtx spec gearing 18 tooth top and it is too deep for long distance running but awsome off trail. going to 19/41 in off season to match the xtx specs to get my fuel milage back in line. you should be 20/41 stock. if you can pull it great but if not i reccomend 19 too top gear for you as well.

well my clutches are not machined for overdrive and it was still hitting same indicated speeds as before without hitting the limiter but we where riding in some loose snow on the trail. i am too low on the fuel milage with the 8 tooth as it takes 2 gallons of gas now to match my apex xtx for range where it used to match it exactly for range on higher speed runs as we just did a 200+ mile day on sat with them together. 05 rx still made them look foolish as it did same run with no gas needed until lunch stop.

Top speed is not a concern for me, so my plan was to drop this 144 in and go down to a 17T gear. Its a used doo 144 track so it might not be as tight as the freeride.
I have the exact same track (1.5" doo crossover track) and it absolutely rips for ditch/backcountry thats why I am sticking with the same one just a bit longer.
Thanks for all the replies guys

Sounds like a good plan, you have the same secondary setup as me and get the full 10% Overdrive out of it. He belt doesn’t seem to like running into over drive though, last 8GK belt started cracking between the lugs with just under 2000 miles on it, previous went over 3000 with the 19t gear
