13 apex wouldn't start


Where is the Fuel Injection relay located? Near the fuel pump and the others? Or somewhere else?

Sorry, I think I used the wrong name for the relay. I should have said "disconnect the fuel pump relay". The outermost relay of the set on the later model Apexes. I'll edit my original post to avoid confusion.
 
Start your sled using this. Cycle key a few times. Hold throttle just a pinch open, and crank, and keep cranking til it stops stumbling. Just got back from quebec in the coldest i've seen it there, and it started every time even to -25 degrees.

Don't worry about damaging the starter motor, because of the type of starter clutch it actually unloads the starter when the engine is running and the starter motor is free wheeling. If the engine rpm drops off the starter clutch re-engages and helps the engine along.
 
I must be lucky, I have a 2012 apex and never had a problem. Yesterday I left it out with the cover on at around -16 below and it started right up. I keep it in a un heated garage and in fact it never melts the whole winter, never had a problem starting it. I keep a trickle charger on the battery just to keep it fresh.
 
I never had a problem either until this season and my sled had the old style fuel pump relay until last month. That's why the dealer thinks it's due to the air box being disconnected. The good news is that there are a number of solutions to choose from if it does happen. It all depends on how brave you are on which solution to try. I tried holding the starter a little longer and it doesn't help at all on my machine. I
may try slimjim2525's method at some point if I continue to have the problem. I don't want to lose riding time and/or have to work on the sled in sub-zero temperatures, so not fouling the plugs is paramount.

If it truly is a cold start fuel table flaw for a specific temperature range, I may incorporate a high reliability remote switch to control the fuel pump relay without having to unplug it.

It just wasn't cold enough. Seems to me the magic no start is -20 F. I spent a cold week touring in Quebec where the coldest night was -47 F in chibougamau. That week my sled only started once because I was lucky and found a garage to park it in for the night.
 
Me and a friend both have 2011's, Gone this week on a big trip got up in the morning and it was -33 below and ares would not start, ended up running a hair dryer in air box to get them going, I will try the fuel pump relay trick next time, I think that will work because they were flooded. Thinking about putting a switch on mine for the fuel pump.
 
My '11 Apex SE does the same thing in extreme cold. Pour some hot water on the thermostat housing and it fires right up and runs fine. Works every time. I don't like to do that but it does work.

Lol perfect day for sledding. Only fellow yammy riders are out as the others will not brave the cold. Mine starts good with no assist at those temps if the sled is over 1/2 tank. Under that it complains a bit. Will not start at all under 1/8 tank of gas at those temps.
