Hey all

Wondering if there is a way to reduce approach angle and extend to 136 at the same time?

I know on the Phazer mountain lots of guys did a simple skid setback of 3.5"? and put 151's on. I am looking at a 136 for next year, but was wondering if I could use the 128 rail extension in combination with a skid setback to get 136? Just to ease up on the trenching a little bit.

thoughts? I know I wouldnt get much more footprint on hardpack, and thats OK, but want the 136x1.75"(likely what I'll use, lots for sale cheap) to help in the deep. Dont think I want 144.

Thanks for any ideas :sled1:

Think again, if you had the same winter we got (Ottawa region), you want a 144.

Go 144", you wont regret it. I love my 144" with tipped up rails. You dont notice the length on the trail and it really climbs up on top of the snow offtrail. I am running a 1.25" x 144" track and my friend is running a 1.325" x 128". In most all conditions, my Phazer hooks up way better than his. since it does hook up so much better, you will get a little more push in the corner. But since the Phazer is not really a corner carving machine, IMO, the 144" is so much better at everything else.

Push in the corners? What the hell is push, and what is a corner? LOL... never been on a trail since 98.

OK so your 144 tip up, is it stock or did you get a tip up rail extension? Need stiffer torsion springs if it was an add-on? If I went 144 i would be looking at 1.5" lug. Not sure I want that much track with a 1.75. I mean it IS only a 80hp motor (stock). I just dont want it to get too doggish with more track than the engine can handle. Yeah I know the mtx comes with a 2" lug but I rode one and found it very lackluster in the stretch your arms department when accelerating. That is why I am only going to go as long as I need, nothing more.

Current set up absolutely smashes, just a bit better backcountry performance would be nice. The front floats on the snow like a butterfly even w/o wide skis. That skinz plate really, really helped in that department. Just want the back to float a bit better.

thanks for the replies guys

Track angle is over rated, I don't think my sled trenches bad at all and have no issues coming to a dead stop in waste deep powder and getting it moving again, the front pops right up out of the snow. Mine isn't sluggish at all and most of your power is eaten up by the sharp turns over the drivers and rear axle, followed by lug height, then length. I'd be willing to bet a phazer with a 121 freeride and the same gearing as mine with a 144 freeride would run side by side in a drag race.

So having said that do you think going with a straight 136 rail extension and a 136x1.75" BackCountry would get the job done?

Drag race? Lets do it! You want to drive over 1300km to get up here? hahaha :sled1:

Just before I pulled the sled off the trailer I see what you mean. Really the approach angle is not bad, havent actually measured it but no its not really a high one. Might just go with a straight (cheap too) extension to 136.

I have an 09' RTX that I added Tracks USA tipped rail extensions. Stock RTX springs. My sled is quicker and faster than stock with the new track and Ulmer clutching. I was going to go with 1.5" Freeride but found a new Firecat EXT 13.5 x 1.25 x 144" track for $325 which is near $200 less than the Freeride.
