Anyone have any experience with camoplast 144" crossover 1.5" lug? If so how do you like it? Looking at extending my Apex with a ZX2 to 144 and want a 1.5" track. Is the cobra a better choice for deep snow performance even though it has a slightly shorter lug?

I have a 151" Crossover on my stretched Warrior, and I LOVE IT!!!

Works great in the powder, yet not too tall for riding the trails on the way to the deep stuff.

I haven't had any experience with the 1.5" lug Crossover track, but I did spend some time last season in the Keweenaw area of the UP riding an Attak with a Cobra track. From that experience, I'm putting a 136" Cobra on one of my 136" Apex based sleds, and installing a 146" Cobra on my SRX that has a Monoshock skid that was formerly a 136" length.

If you have either the March or September 2008 issues of SnowTech magazine, they have great reviews of both style tracks. They called the 1.5" lug Crossover track their choice for "the ultimate crossover sled". They also chose the Cobra as a slightly better choice for mostly trail riding in looser snow conditions. They do most of their testing in the UP, on and off trail, with a fair amount of fire road trail riding.

I would think that either the Cobra or the Crossover track that you're considering would be a great choice with the 144" ZX2 on your Apex. It just depends on the ratio of what conditions (trail/off trail) you are going to be riding your sled in the majority of the time.

From my experience, the Cobra out performed the stock Ripsaw track in everything except extreme hardpack conditions.

If your ratio would be 50% or more off trail, I'd go with the Crossover, otherwise the Cobra would be my choice for a higher ratio of on trail riding, especially in the UP. Happy Trails! ;)!

Thanks for the replies, with the cobra did you change anything from stock (drivers, tunnel protectors etc.). I have been doing alot of research on 1.5" lug tracks and I will either have to notch the track or take the protectors out. And with the 1.5" lug tracks it seems like half of the people change drivers, the other half keep it stock, so I really don't know what to think. But if that .15" less of lug on the track makes live that much easier for me by not having to trim or cut anything, I may go that route.

I just put a Cobra on my Attak without changing drivers or anything else.
Alot of people will put the extroverts on just to prevent any possible ratcheting, since the shaft is already out. But I don't think it's necessary.

The Cobra will fit in an Apex without any changes, as long as you stick with the 2.52" pitch track. No need to change drivers or remove any protectors. The lugs on the Cobra track are really 1.25", which is the same height as your stock Ripsaw. There are some higher tips that protrude from the lugs that result in Camoplast calling it a 1.375" height, but those tips will not be a clearance issue.

I ran a 144 crossover last season. I liked it very much. I removed the protectors for the 1.5" lug, and ran extroverts. I have since switched to a 1.25X144" track only because I wanted to run studs this season.

The crossover was a great track and worked well on the trail and better off trail. No complaints. You will like it.
