Have read a lot about the 121 to 144 extension and even asked about it last year. well this year is a more probable year to do it and I want to make sure i know everything i will need to price it all out. So far all i know i will need is the tunnel extension, rail extension, track, and new hyfax. Would i need anything else? Planning on running a 1.5 inch lug. would i need another set of wheels or scratchers? will stock drivers work or will i need extroverts? Thanks.

stock drivers will work but you may have to cut off the front coolers protectors, or notch the track. You're right on the hyfax, extension kit (i recommend OFT racing's) track, and tunnel extension. depending if you go with the base kit or the 8" wheel kit you will also need new wheels and i would highly recommend scratchers

Your going to have it out so getting extros isnt a bad idea... As far as the tunnel protectors, keep them or remove them. Scince you cant run studs i would remove them. The protectors on the front cooler can stay in. I run a 1.5 intense track, I left mine in with no problems. You will need some sort of idler to add. Some kits come with it i think but if not just a couple brackets and wheels and ur good to go. Good luck, was a great mod although i only went to 136. Im thinking next year i will move the skid back and go to 144 tho.

I would go with the OFT tipped up rails and I would install a extra wheel right before the tip up. If you put on the dupont hyfax ice scratchers will not be needed. I would take off the protectors. Anti racheting drivers would be a good idea also so you can run your track looser. How set are you on the 1.5" track? After puting 2500+ miles on my backcountry I really think it's the way to go. Just my opinion and what I did and love how it works and handles.

Does the stock xtx nytro come with the tunnel cooler? And what wheels are you guys adding at the tip up? I have seen the x wheels but i would only want one pair with mounts and they don't seem to have pricing on that. Would scratchers make it so i don't need to add any wheels?
Also anyone used the 1.5 crossover track on a nytro? how does it compare to the oem xtx ripsaw?

Forgot to ask has anyone had any cooling problems on the trail running a 144 extension? Or even reliability issues? Not sure if the extra track weight puts more of a strain on the sled. Is a gearing change needed?

I think to help you properly set the sled up we need to know how and where it will be ridden. Is this sled used on trails only? How much off trail? What is more important to you? Although I do run my sled on the trails I have it set up to run better off trail and as a result there are some compromises on trail.

Sled will most likely be getting ridden 75 on 25 off. Which is why we do not want a 1.75 track. For who is riding the sled, my father, it would have to be set up more for the trails. We want the ability to go offtrail when we take a trip farther north or when a big snowfall comes and the groomers haven't had a chance to go out.

For that I would say 144" is overkill. One thing to keep in mind is that extending a shorty will not turn it into an XTX, it's a different skid altogether. The longer you go the more handling you are giving up. Simply going to a 121" 1.5" intense offers a huge improvement off trail over the stock rip saw, and won't cost much at all... A buddy of mine did it and his sled is great off trail.
If you do want to extend I would suggest the OFT 136" kit. In addition to the kit you will need extro drivers. The stock drivers ratchet very easy and any snow load and you will be cursing them. Also as mentioned above, for the amount of trail riding you do you will need extra idlers using the stock mount point that is provided in the rails. Bigger lugs and longer tracks equal increased slider wear. (Or I suppose the dupont sliders are an option, but too rich for my blood).

Thanks, this just made my mind up about this same dilemma I've been having. Is there any clutching or gearing that's needs to be done?

I wouldn't waste your time with the 136" just go with the 144". A xtx doesn't have anything different than a standard short track for cooling. I really would look into the backcountry track to. It hooks great on and off trail. My sled was a studded 121" and thing handles 10 times better with the longer skid and tipped up rails. For a extra wheel by the tip up part of the rail I just picked a set of outside mount kits from Yamaha and you can use the small yamaha idler or skidoo which ever you can find. Btw my stock clutching and gearing worked fine.
