A friend in our riding group wants to replace the stock track on his RTX -08 for something better. The budget for this swap is a bit strained (lost his job) so he basically has two options at hand that fits him financially. Both tracks are used one season. First is a 14x121x1.5 freeride, second is a 15x128x1.5 ripsaw incl extensions.

Riding is 50/50 on/off trail. We all know the ripsaw sucks off trail (even the 1.5"?). The freeride otoh is a bit narrower and shorter.

I'm suggesting the ripsaw due to the extra footprint, but have no experience with the taller lug'ed ripsaw's.

What do you think and what would you choose?

I have ran a few freerides & I still have one on my turbo sled(144)they work better then you would think for a 14 wide in deeper snow.

Ok, thanks for your input.
I was thinking the extra ~18% or so footprint of the 128" might compensate the better pattern of the freeride.

The comparison is not that simple when you get more length as well as width with the Ripsaw option, but for the same size track I am quite confident that I would pick the Freeride lug any day compared to the Ripsaw lug.

I would choose the ripsaw 128. I like the fact that you would gain footprint to help floatation. The biggest thing for me would be the worry of losing stability with the 14" width. Nytros are not know to be the most stable sleds, especially the 2008.
